I'll be heading to the Great White North (aka Canada) on Wednesday and it looks like it's going to be interesting considering all the snow that has been accumulating up there.

I don't think the flight will be canceled, but it may be delayed since Vancouver International is a mess right now. I am hoping that we can get on the BC ferry to Vancouver Island at a decent time, but I'm a little concern since all the reservation spots are booked so it will be first come, first serve now.

The scary part is driving at night in wintery conditions on mountain roads. The car rental place puts on snow tires, but they don't offer tire chains. I read that the police are telling people to stay off the roads unless they have too. It may be a long Christmas Eve for me.

Boy, are you in for a treat! Do you have any experience driving in these treacherous conditions? It would certainly be helpful. Hopefully, temps will climb to above normal and melt away the carp(sp).

Hmmm, just looked at the forecast for Vancouver and Victoria Harbour...good luck and be careful.

We're expecting another foot of snow tonight, then the rains will start. If should wash all the crap away pretty quick.
Bring some waterproof boots , as all that snow turns to slush pretty quick.
try www.bcferries.com for a reservation. Not sure if you have enough lead time though. They do shut them down after so many bookings.
Travel safely .

I finally made it to Vancouver Island.

Our plane got delayed in Dallas for an hour since they were doing some kind of maintenance. As we were getting closer to Vancouver, the pilot informed us that Vancouver airport was closed since their navigation system wasn't working as the snow storm was passing through. So we ended up flying into Seattle to refuel and we sat on the runway until Vancouver opened back up. We ended up being 3 hrs behind schedule which threw a wrench into our schedule. It was a good thing that the BC Ferries reservation was full because we would have missed our reservations. We ended up catching the 8:15 PM ferry over to the island. So that was a 2 hr trip and then another 1 hr drive to my wife's home town. We ended up getting in at around midnight. At least traffic was non-existent and the roads were pretty well paved. Lets see what the next few days will bring.
