Any commodity traders?

Hi everyone!

I've wrapping my masters up now and have accepted a job in Geneva for a graduate trading program. Curious if there are any commodity traders or aspiring commodity traders on here?

Go to the "For Sale: ROLEX (brand) watches" section right here on TRF and you can see tons of Rolex commodity traders. It's probably not the level you're looking for but it is true commodity trading without commissions. Most of the people here don't want to admit it but that's what it is for SS sport models now for a lot of people.

Are you trading physical or derivatives thereof (futures, forwards, etc.)

Won't be trading anything at first as part of the grad program, but will hopefully go on to trade physical.

you're unlikely to find people on this forum with experience in physical. I used to deal with physical traders a lot, and still have friends working in it. What I can say is that it's a tough business and is a much smaller world than paper commodities trading. Most guys in traffic won't become traders, but it's valuable experience regardless

Buy low, sell high, I like frozen concentrated orange juice and pork bellies...

I run risk at a energy trading firm. So not a trader personally but deal with them daily.

Welcome to the exciting world of commodities! Not sure which area you are looking at to concentrate on but all of them have their own nuance that is fun to learn since it involves something that is actually used on a daily basis by millions of people and none of the those millions actually understand how a product (whether commodity itself or finished product that needed commodities) ends up at their home for consumption.

Any commodity traders?

Had a Series 7 and was a Commodities Broker Many Moons Ago. It is a rough game and not easy to master. I had more losers than winners. No more trading in Commodities for me!

Best Of Luck!

It’s gambling, highly levered, white-knuckle, sleepless nights.

But if you get lucky you can make more money then imaginable.

Not a career I would do to support a family.

I didn't trade commodities but Interest rate derivatives.

Highly recommended non-academia books by two well regarded traders.
