Is 116520 for people who can't get 116500 and can't afford 16520?

Hi all,

As per subject, my friend shared this thought with me as we are hunting for a Daytona.

He advised me that there's not much demand for 116520 as it's not as well received for other daytona models.

Do you all agree with his statement?

I think that’s a load of tosh. There are many who do prefer the steel bezel Daytona to the ceramic, and he demand is certainly there - have you seen the prices?

"Is 116520 for people who can't get 116500 and can't afford 16520?" - yes it's for the poor people that only have US$ 15,000 / SGD 22,000 to spend on a watch. what a crass question.

What a BS...

I bought my 116520 new in January 2015 and at that time the 116500 was not available.
Since the introduction of the 116500 the prices for the 116520 have risen with almost 50% of the original MRSP.

Goodness gracious, this does not even pass the common sense test. Not worth processing an explanation.

No the ceramic Daytona in the real world except for a slither of ceramic and few other very minor cosmetic changes, is basically the same model that was introduced way back in 2000.But today many buy into the hype and perceived rarity of certain models, it's about time some realised Rolex is a mass produced product.

Damn... I’d better get shut of mine whilst I can.

Hope I can get a few quid for it before it’s worthless.

Apparently it's too late. I think it's an awesome watch however.

I couldn't agree more, but there sure seems to be a lot of competition for that title of late.

For me, it was I do not like the black sub dial rings and prefer the silver. I saw a white ceramic Daytona in the flesh the other week and thought the deep black of the ceramic was too stark of a contrast against the white dial for me. I was thinking of getting the ceramic version and am on a “list”, but after seeing it have taken myself off. I have too many black dial watches now, but do prefer the black dial ceramic to the older version as it retains the silver subdials.

As for your debate with your friend, I think most folks in the daytona world who want the new ones will get them and can swing the price of the older version if wanted. The zenith movement is not a better movement than the new Rolex movement. I know, I owned the zenith Daytona and got rid of it.

I’m so sorry but it’s a very insensitive remark from your friend, given the number of owners for this model.

Price now of the 520 means anyone can buy a 500 instead if they so wish.

The ceramic Daytona in general has been over inflated long enough that commodity buyers are controlling its narrative.
