AP 39mm Chrono Panda Dial

As I was looking into alternatives for the Daytona. I ran across the now out of production 39mm panda dial chrono. I love the new models but 41mm will not fit my small wrist. Does anyone have the 39mm panda? I’m torn if the chrono takes away that classic AP royal oak look. But it’s a beautiful watch. I would love to hear some feedback and see some wrist shots !

This was my dream watch at one point. Ari Gold wore it in the final season on enterage.
I ended up getting a Patek 5167 instead and from a value perspective I am glad I did..

Both beautiful watches and yes think you made the right choice! The AP is going for close to 20k right now when it was like 13-15k earlier this year.

When I was buying about 5-6 years ago the 5167 was 16k and the 26300 was about 17-18k.. I would defiantly choose the 26300 over a Daytona.

It’s definjtely a hard choice.. how would you say the 39mm AP sits on the wrist compared to Daytona ? 19.8k I was quoted is a little pricey but in new Daytona ballpark , difference being service costs

They didn’t do a 39mm panda in stainless steel

The early 26300ST had a couple of dial options with slightly contrasting sub dials but no true panda dial (from memory)

I consider AP to be dressier and wear mine on special occasions. Daytona is less fragile and gets more wrist time. That being said if I could only keep one it would AP. Good luck.

I've owned 41mm and 39mm Royal Oaks, like the 39mm proportions much better.

The chrono is great, I owned a 26300 blue dial.

A great alternative to a Daytona for roughly the same money depending on model and condition.

Love the 26300 Panda. You mean this one below? If so, YES! No brainer against the Daytona for me.

Yes that’s the one.. I found one locally for around $19,500 in near mint condition with box/papers and a 2 yr store warranty. Just trying to weigh it out as it’s definitely over the budget I wanted to spend for the Daytona (which I could get from a grey BNIB).

You are comparing a secondary market price Daytona (way overpriced) to an AP which has a retail price north of the one you found (and incredibly hard to find). That said, price he is quoting you is high. I would recommend contacting DavidSW or Takuya (where photo is linked from) and see if they can source you one. You should be paying 15-16K for that watch in same condition and full set. That one I grabbed from his old stock was listed at $13,725.

You’re right.. I actually reached out to them both already as I saw they both had that watch in stock recently. Wow that was a great grab ! What was this watch listed as new ? It seems that possibly the Daytona would hold better value if purchased at retail.

New was $22,800.

Sure, the Daytona will hold its value better if bought from an AD and if that's what you are after, go for it and good luck. But the Daytona is not worth ~$20K and the AP is 100% worth all of ~$15K and should always be worth about that if you take care of it. Are you buying this watch as an "investment" or to enjoy/appreciate it? If the latter, AP all the way if its one or the other. Can always get the AP now and stay waiting for a Daytona at MSRP.....

I've owned two Daytonas and currently have a 25860. To me, the 39mm AP is perfect for my 6.5" wrist. I found it way more legible than both Daytonas [which is partly why I flipped them]. The only downsides to the AP for me is that it is only 50m WR and there are definitely higher service costs. To me the "scratchability" of the brushed AP is similar to the PCLs of the Daytonas. That panda dial is awesome.

It’s definitely a unique look and an awesome dial overall. Combined with one of the best bracelets around makes for a tremendous watch. I was told though that the clasp is big underneath and may extend over my wrist.

OP, have you taken a look at the 38mm ROC? There is no Panda dial though, yet, wanted to give you a heads up.

I haven’t seen it in person but the 38mm chronos are great looking in pictures .. especially the white with blue subs. Back in December though I ended up making the move for the Daytona as I kept coming back to it. Also, didn’t want to end up getting a 6-7 year old AP. With my wrist size, it’s been a challenge finding sports watches that fit well. Think the Daytona checked that box as well. Been really enjoying it so far, but I’m still tempted by the ROC and panda Daytona as well. We’ll see what happens down the road lol.

I had one and sold it as well, regretted it after 2y and been looking to buy it again as well. Great watch for sure and imo the best ROC that AP ever produced.
