116655 (RG YM Oysterflex) vs 116519 (WG Daytona Oysterflex)

Want to solicit some input here.

I'm wondering what's the forum's thoughts are on the 116655 vs the 116519.

Long story short, I owned the 116655 for about two months before moving it on. I thought it was a very underrated piece, and looked a lot better in person than it did in pictures. A couple of things bugged me:

1) The gap between the OF strap and the case.
2) The dial was a bit "flat", though it being matte helped tone it down a lot.
3) Even though much less flashier than other gold Rolexes, and the large amount of black surface area against the RG, I still found it a bit hard to match with office attire.
4) Lack of an Easylink extension.

There was a lot that I liked about it, such as the 3D matte/polished bezel, and the comfort of the Oysterflex combined with the heft of the case.

One piece I've had my eyes on for more than 1.5 years, and have tried on multiple times at ADs is the WG 116519. And this piece seems to resolve many of the issues I had with the 116655. The silver starburst dial is incredible and makes me go "WOW" every time I see it in person. It has a very distinct glow from the white gold, but is more low key than the SS 116500.

Yesterday, the opportunity came to pick this one up, but I still hesitated for a bit. At this point I'm just wondering if I should have any more reservations - considering that the 116655 didn't pan out for me.

I've had both. While I think the RG YM is a wonderful watch, it wouldn't be close for me to choose between the two.

No reservations from me on the 519, it's such a great watch...I say full speed ahead.

Couldn't agree more. Your experience with the YM will not be the same with the 116519 just because both are on oysterflex. Two totally different animals. Love the 116519...and there's not gap

Agree with Larry. Completely different watches in my opinion and the 519 is just awesome. Checks all the boxes for me.

weak poll.... this is going to be a landslide

i love the 116655 as you know and it got moved for the WG Daytona whenever it arrives

Im afraid the poll is going to make people think the 116655 isnt a great watch though, it is. I mean come on, "no watch" has more votes than the YM. really?

Daytona, not even close. The WG (and RG) Daytona on the oysterflex is the cats meow.

In this case it quite literally is the unloved red-headed child.

The 116655 really is great. I'd take it over almost every other SS Rolex.

Does the OF on the 116519 go well with an office attire?

The YM is a really nice piece but it doesn’t pop enough for me. I also thought it looked a little flat when I tried it on. I recently picked up the 116519 and it really pops. Only issue for me is legibility. My black dial 116500 has better legibility

Most here are Daytona crazy. They would pick a Daytona vs mist any other piece. As you know Tom, where my vote lies.

I don’t dislike the 116655 at all. I’d love to have one someday. The difference to me is the polished bezel and steel dial. Just gorgeous.

Its a no brainer for me, I'd take the 116655.
No love at all from me for the Daytona

It’s all in the color because RG vs WG are really different. I like both but I believe the first PM would be better served if it’s RG unless you love Daytona more than the YM/sub look.

I’m going with neither.

It’s not often I say this but both look too big on you with the OF straps

If you have to have one the YM looks better on you

It's the 116519LN for me but then again, I'm biased.

For me, it would be the YM if only for the date function. None of the new Daytona models do a thing for me.

I like the older models with the like metal bezels. The newer models with the ceramic? Meh!

Even tho the YM is the RG watch the OF is the wow piece for me, beautiful color combos make this a really cool slick piece for me. Reminds me of the 5164 which is one of my very fave watches too so big compliment.

Interesting you draw that connection Neil. When I had my 5164, I was thinking they were too similar to have next to each other. Now that I no longer have the 5164 and have a 5712 instead, I'm thinking this is the one to really fill the shoes that the 5164 had in my collection.

Yeah, the gap really bothered me as well for the YM.

Once I got the 116519LN almost nothing else has gotten wrist time since.

I prefer the YM. I just picked one up for the Mrs for our 20th anniversary. She loves it. I wouldn't mind wearing it either. Lucky for me I got her the 40mm instead of the 37

I think in 2s, so, in this case, I’d go RG YM. Why? Because RG YM and SS Daytona > SS YM and WG OF Daytona.

I would have to go with the WG Daytona. It's rare and you really don't see it that often at an AD, unless it's in the vault (at least IMO).

Plus, I love the way it looks with that sunburst silver dial!!

Alright. I've made up my mind. Saturday will be a big day.

An early congrats to you! Looking forward to your incoming thread.

For me, the 116655 and the 116519 are night and day difference. I absolutely love the 116519 and it is my grail watch I hope to own someday. I really never cared for the 116655 at all. The Everose gold is nice, but I could never get past the matte black dial and bezel with black numbers. I personally feel that it would stand out much more if the bezel was black glossy ceramic with rose gold numerals. I think those numbers need to stand out a bit more imo. The gaps between the case and the strap that you mentioned also turn me off. Overall, the 116655 misses it on all points for me. That's just my 2 cents. :)

BTW, what is that bezel made of? I don't think there is any other Rolex that has this style of bezel. I'm not trying to be an @ss, but it looks like ABS plastic.

The 116519 has all of the nice features imo. The chrono obviously, the ceramic bezel with contrasting numbers that stand out, the beautiful sunray steel "panda" dial, OF strap nicely finished at the case with integrated endlinks. This is a watch that can be worn in shorts with a t-shirt, used everyday with office attire, or even formal with a tux. This one hits it on all points for me.

Bezel is matte Ceramic (as per the Rolex site) and you are correct no other reference has this type of bezel at the moment.

BEZEL
Bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel with matt black Cerachrom insert in ceramic, polished raised numerals and graduations

I’ve owned both and it’s a very very close 116519 for the win. I absolutely loved my 116655 and would love to own another.

Unfortunately I can only choose one so for me it’s the 116519.

Aside from my sinmply falling in love with the 116519, especially the dial, I tend to prefer the white gold over rose. That said, the 116655 is as casual and sporty a RG watch as you can get IMo, which is a very attractive feature (I think) for most of us.

Otherwise, and most importantly the lack of EZ link made it impossible for me to get the right fit on the watch. For that reason alone I moved it along to make way for others.

116655 a true stunner in person. It’s a mix of stealth and flash. What else can it compare to? And it’s so comfortable.

The Daytona is super cool too. Very sporty, I’d consider jogging with it lol if I owned one.
