Cleaning your Rolex at home

How do you all clean your Rolex at home? If I perspire a lot I will rinse it under tap water. I don't shower with the watch on at all. Should you use a soft tooth brush to get some of the crud from every day wear out of the nooks and crannies?

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Direct from the rolex website:

WASHING AND CLEANING YOUR WATCH
Caring for your Rolex
You can help preserve your watch’s lustre by cleaning it occasionally with a cloth. You can also wash the case and metal bracelet from time to time using soapy water and a soft brush (not for leather straps). Water is the natural element for a Rolex with a metal bracelet, including the salt-water of the sea and ocean.

Just use a mild soap and water. You can use a soft toothbrush but I don’t. I usually just take it into the shower with me on occasion. Scrub a dub dub....no muss no fuss.

Washing-up liquid for a quick wash and proper jewellery cleaning solution every few months for a deep clean with a soft toothbrush.

I rinse all my watches daily while at work, whichever I’m wearing that day. Just make sure the crown is all the way closed tightly then rinse w hot water & soap w your fingers, in between the links, clasp. Then dry w a soft paper towel and finish drying w toilet paper. You will see how much crud you will pick up between the links.

This. Dish soap is best. Hand soap has additives aimed to moisturize which your steel watch doesn’t need.

same for me

Also purchased a cheap ultrasonic cleaner to give the bracelets a deeper clean every once in a while.

Ultrasonic cleaner is amazing. Just to double check, you only put the bracelet in the ultrasonic cleaner right?

Your crown is not meant to be closed “tightly”, ever. But that’s a topic for another thread.

If you really want to see how much crud is in between the links, take off the metal bracelet and place it in a sonic jewelry cleaner with specific jewelry cleaning solution... I also throw in the pins and the end links for good measure...

I do this 4x per year... keeps the links clean and reduces the chance that dirt will wear the links and cause stretch...

Otherwise... as many have said... Dawn and a soft cloth or toothbrush...

A few years back I went swimming with my SOH II. I didn't realize the crown was open and off to Breitling it went. Expensive mistake.

I find toothbrushes (even soft ones) are too abrasive and will sometimes leave swirly marks on mirror finishes. Better off just using your hand or a q-tip but if you have a soft jewelry brush that would be ideal.

I have a toothbrush for sensitive teeth (softer bristles) and I use a bit of dish soap and brush lightly. Then a microfiber towel until dry.

Also - Dyim gives a PERFECT spot of advice...

I use body wash every couple weeks in warm water, and dry off with a cotton hand towel. Amazing how much better they look.

I let mine soak in glass of Liquid Dawn and warm water for a couple of minutes then lightly scrub with a child's toothbrush and dry with a micro fiber cloth. Works great.

I didn’t mean too tightly but just reminding him to make sure is tightened enough.

Use Ivory liquid. It’s literally the only thing that will not leave any sort of a film.

That sounds like way too much effort.

I just throw mine in the washing machine. General better with a full load. All that banging and clanging otherwise is quite annoying

Dish washing liquid soup, no toothbrush, and room temperature water. Find that the dish washing liquid soup leaves better results than hand soap. Good luck. I would avoid the toothbrush at this time.

Used to use an ultrasonic, but been using the steamer for a year or so now. I’ve used it on a DD40, sub, DJ41, and a couple older DJ’s without a single issue.
Easier/quicker than pushing that damn ultrasonic button every two minutes too.
Couldn’t find the pic of the before, but this is my FIL’s DD40 and it was pretty gross before the steamer. Came out looking like a whole new watch.

Edit-
Found a before
