What do you REALLY think about the Daytona

EDIT: FORGOT the Poll, please use this thread!

Not to flame Daytona lovers, but in my 1.2 years here, I've noticed that members' opinions about the Daytona tend to live on opposite sides of the spectrum. As such, let's get it out and done. What's your opinion of the Daytona?

I think the chase is most of the appeal for the SS Daytona. It's a beautiful watch but way overrated & overpriced in my opinion.

my thoughts exactly for a long time until recently.

i found myself checking out the pix of "black-widow" WG Daytona quite often recently..... something about the red and black dial on that thing

not right now, but one day

There was a time that I lusted after a stainless Daytona....white for me as I'm not crazy about the black dial. I guess I 'got over it'. I've tried one on a couple of times and I still think it's a beautiful watch - just don't HAVE TO HAVE it. Of course if my husband decided to just buy me one anyway......LOL!

I mean in the time it took me to re-create the thread with a poll, there were several posts on this one!

My 2 cents: SS: beautiful watch but way too much money; a Zeith El Primero has more functions and amazing dial (not to mention clear caseback) for a fraction of the price. Now, on the 2T and gold versions; that's another story! I love mine (1 month old) and the new rose gold is superb.

I don't care too much for the Daytona. Anything without a date function does not appeal to me. The chronograph feature is useless to me as well.

I have been off and on the fence on the Daytona. I think the whole waiting for the call for the stainless is not worth it for me. I think for others, it it is your grail I say go for it.

As far as the Daytona in general. I think it is a great looking watch. I have to say when I am watching the Rolex race series, especailly the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona, my want for one goes up. It is truly an iconic watch for race fans.

I wish it had a date, but having other watches without dates, I would have no problem wearing one.

To sum up my opinion,if I had the cash today to go out and get a Daytona, I would get a two tone. So I can say, I like the Daytona.

You've got to love a Daytona.

Firstly, only the Daytona could spark off such debate, and secondly the majority of the people who 'say' they don't care for them or don't want one are the people that have tried (in vain) to acquire this most fantastic of watches and failed.

Can anybody think of another watch that causes such extreme reactions from people???

What extreme reactions? Are people not allowed to think anything but the best of Daytonas? I also don't like new Bentleys. Is that wrong too, just because they are great expensive cars? People are different, deal with it!
Acquiring a Daytona is not that hard, they are everywhere, man. Whoever tries to get one WILL get one.

Yes, the Explorer II. Seems to be another "love it or loathe it" watch - there are a few threads running along those lines at the mo...

To me, they are quite similar - both have fixed steel bezels and either black or white dials.

The Daytona was somewhat unloved until it became a hit in Italy. The Exp II seems to become very desirable once the current model has been discontinued i.e. the previous "orange hand" model.

Cheers

I would much rather have a Omega Speedmaster, way better value for the $ and a timeless look. If I was going top spend 10 grand it would be on a Blancpain FF, not a chrono that I would never use.

In all honest opinion, I think it's the most overrated watch ever created. It doesn't even have a date feature

The only Daytona I would ever consider getting is the WG with meteorite dial.
