chrono24 idiot dealer

So I wanted to buy a Rolex on chrono24, I have done this a few times before, never had an issue before. When I asked the dealer for an image of the exact watch he is selling he told me to go buy elsewhere as he doesn't want any problems. There were a few discrepancies in the add so this is what I asked him:

hi, before I make the payment please confirm you have the watch in stock and send a picture of the actual watch. thanks

His response:
Please don’t make the payment

I would like avoid problem

Was my request so offensive and unreasonable? The dealer in question is one of the bigger guys with many 5 star ratings, makes you wonder.

Many source the watch after someone expresses interest.

I would love to know how that works, especially on the harder to get watches, Chrono24 should not let them do that.

The first clue is usually pictures. Stock photo's, or just one photo are a big red flag. Unique, hi-res pictures, in quantity, of the same watch usually mean they have the watch pictured.

Sounds like you did all the right things. A classic example of buying the seller first. Good for you.

This particular watch was supposedly in stock and ready to ship, pictures had the factory stickers on but then he said there are no stickers.

better now than after you received the watch.

I'd report him to Chrono. I doubt this is allowed. On many of the ads there is even a picture with the time set to a time that Chrono asked for to ensure the seller is legit.

I’d use quote marks vs parens

“trusted” vs (trusted)

That is, now that you’ve heard that asking for a picture is trouble.

How long was the conversation leading up to you asking for picture?
If it was a big established dealer he might have closed 10 deals during the conversation and probably felt it was easier to sell to someone else. Many grey dealers put very little effort to provide any kind of luxury buying experience.

Over 24 hours, he obviously has something to hide, maybe something small but the attitude was very bad. Was very good at 1st but got weird when I asked relevant questions to clarify the contradictions in what he was advertising.

Sounds like a dealer one doesn't wan't to do business with. Hope you can track down a similar watch from a better dealer.

And perhaps he had someone looking that was from his home country and didn't want to deal with an international sale.

Just guessing, here.

Half the dealers on chrono don’t have the watch.
I know of instances where dealers are undercutting me on big pieces (Nautilus/Richard Mille), then they (fake stock dealer) end up calling me once they have a “sale” and try to get me to lower my price.

If you call them, they will tell you they just sold one but they can get another for a bit more than their last asking price.

yes, they often inflate the price on watches they don't even have.

I purchased my Tudor BB from a dealer on Chrono24 and the seller was very open and honest and told me exactly what I would be getting and when it arrived it was very pleased, I believe the seller I dealt with used a stock photo but the watch was sold as new and came with all tags and warranty

No name and shame will happen but like others said, if he is too big to send me a picture then he won't get my money.

If you’re too big to take the time to send me a photo of the actual watch I’ll be getting, you’re obviously too big for my $30k.
Good that you found out early. “Avoid problem”= avoid you being pissed your NIB watch is actually LNIB, but really actually gently used.
Good luck in the hunt!

As a current seller on chrono24 I feel for the seller.

The amount of rubbish queries I need to reply to is shocking.

Lots of scammers too. Half now, half on delivery. I offered to book a flight this weekend to hand deliver and suddenly he disappeared.

Are offers not binding? Chrono24 support is useless.

One guy told me that the 3rd picture of the watch was different than the others. The dial was a different colour

I also tell them to get lost.

It must be frustrating, dealing with dreamers and scammers.

Chron24 should have a rating system for buyers, like Uber. Then sellers know they dealing with serious buyers.

Is asking for clarification and images of the actual watch too much? Pictures show stickers and full set but he says no stickers and a few other discrepancies, I am not handing over 10s of thousands to anyone that could not be bothered to send me a simple clarification and some pictures and then tells me to forget about it because I asked for clarification on his own contradictions.

From experience, discrepancies can occur for many reasons in your case - chrono24 automatically puts im detail for each watch, translation if description, maybe half of the stickers are there or have since been removed.

Point is, if you are using the escrow service then why not. Ask for references etc.

But i do understand a sellers reluctance and lack of effort to send pics after pics after pics.

The watche I have for sale is the cheapest and a very in demand SS, top viewed on chrono24 but every single potential buyer has not been serious. Frustrating and if not sold in 6 months at least I get my listing fee back.

Won't use chrono24 to sell

I wanted to advertise here but don't do PayPal, mods if you are reading how do a wire a payment for becoming a pledge member? Will be quicker and better to sell on this forum than chrono24 IMO.
