Need opinion on a Rolex 5514

This is from 1971 and it used to belong to Gerald Dignand that used to work at Comex.

In 1995 it got serviced and you can see that it have a service dial and the back lid is also changed without any sign of Comex.

What do you guys think?

I think it's a shame the original dial and caseback were removed. If you are looking to buy, it is cool and would depend on price. Very sad about the original comex dial :(

Not all 5514 were produced with Comex on the dial. The earliest examples did not have it, and Rolex service dials would be in keeping with the original. So the dial is fine on this one.

The fact that the original case back is missing is the problem, because it has lost it’s only Comex marking.

Is there any documentation with the watch? If the 5514 is legit and all there then I would trade that 16613LB in a second.

As for the trade, I’d say no.

I’m unsure this is anything more than a 5414 case with an HEV. Original dial is gone, original caseback is gone, and who knows if that’s the original movement?

Your Bluesy is more legit methinks.

I think you’d always wonder about this 5514’s pedigree...

Either way, I bought the watch with pictures and a whole lot of provenence. Really cool pictures of the watch in action!

The original 1520 is still kicking inside and I have the heart breaking receipe from 1995 where they charged 400USD for a service, one of the things that were done was "change of case back" There the old Comex lid went down the drain.

Anyway, I think its a really nice piece and its becoming my daily beater ;)

Congrats! Did you see the other one for sale in Norway? Everything is great except it had a factory relume on the dial. Still has caseback, etc.

BTW, I don't think the Blusey is anything special at all.. you made a good trade IMO for a much more interesting and unique daily beater / fun piece of history.
