Watchmen

Without spoilers, I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Dan Dreiberg, Eddie Blake and Hollis Mason were spot on, Laurie Juspeczyk was better than I originally feared.

Doc Manhattan looked great but sounded wrong. Rorschach looked pretty good but moved and sounded all wrong.

Adrian Veidt - WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! Snyder screwed the pooch there.

I'm on the fence about whether Alan Moore was right in not wanting to have anything to do with the movie. Overall, the spirit of the story was maintained except for one key scene right at the end. I'll talk about that part later to keep from dropping a spoiler.

Nah, Squid wasn't a problem. There's something else a bit after that which was missed out, and that's the one thing about the movie that really got my nose out of joint. Stay tuned.

I think it might be good for someone who hadn't read the comic. For those who have, it will be less than totally satisfying, although to be fair, the movie did do a reasonable job of handling such a complex story within such a short running length. It was nowhere as intricate as the comic, but you'd really have to make it a miniseries if you wanted to do that.

I've waited 20 years for this movie, and I wasn't disappointed. It doesn't sound like much until you consider that I wanted to take out contracts on the idiot brothers who mangled V For Vendetta beyond recognition.

Joe, head down to Borders and pick up a copy of the comic - that'll get you up to speed. It wasn't the only comic to have made it to Time's Top 100 Novels list for nothing.

read the comic book back in 1989,seems like yesterday.i was blown away.never thought the day would come when it would be turned into a movie.expectations are high.hope to catch it this weekend.seems alan moore distancing himself again from a movie adaptation of his work.hope it doesnt turn out like v for vendetta which i thought was a bit lame and the league of extraordinary gentleman which was a bit of a mess.

Rest assured, it was much better than W for Wendetta and LXG. It paled next to Moore's masterpiece, but within a sub-three-hour running time that was always going to be the case. In its own right, though, it did the story justice, all except for that one bit at the end. That in itself sets Watchmen streets ahead of the Whatthehelldoyouthinkyouaredoingski brothers' murder of V for Vendetta. When I saw that they had cut out the crucial TV station scene from the movie, I could have gone right out and shot them - and then invoiced their families for the cost of the bullets. They should stick to their flying-robotic-squid nonsense and not destroy other people's work.

I think Watchmen comic is too perfect. The BEST Comic I ever read beside Kingdom Come & Marvels. It's hard to making the movie.
Alan Moore don't like the idea. But I'm still want to see it if that movie already hit Jakarta.

i just saw it in IMAX. since i never read the book i have to say i have very low standards, for me the movie is amazing! can't wait for the blu ray so many twists! all i can say is if you did not read the book the movie is worth watching, if you read it, forget about the book and just enjoy the movie. Go Rorschach! no compromise even in the face of armageddon!

Ok. I know nada, nothing, zippo about this movie(or the comic strip). However, today I heard a review on NPR(US: National Public Radio, listener and partially gov't supported) that canned the movie. Don't worry. I'm relying on your judgment in this that I won't waste my precious $7.50 or whatever outrageous sums of money they're getting to see a movie these days. I'll let you know. I did go and read about this at suggested sites.

We shall see.....(only the Shadow knows?)

Dan, do keep in mind that when it comes to movie adaptations of comics, I'm a real skinflint with praise. In light of that, perhaps chenx's review might be more objective for non-comic geeks.

Sorry, but I had to postpone my viewing of the film for the next weekend.

Just couldn't miss the 3rd One Day International Cricket match between India and the Kiwis at Christchurch which turned out to be a real humdinger......with several records being broken along the way!!

To me it was like a slasher film and edging on a lightly pornographic??? The envelope was really pushed and It just didn't have a good storyline. I was especially turned off when Doc Mahatten's wang was hanging out most of the movie!! That was not cool. Again this is just my opinion and I'm just one guy that's all. However, my friend who is in to those type films said he HATED it too...

i found the wang part pretty funny and so were my seatmates. i like the steamy parts as well i have to agree with gedanken about the use of the hallelujah. pretty bad sound on that. everything else i liked specially the wang part!

Well, that R rating is there for a reason.

As for the wang and the sex scene, both have their place in the storyline, although I can see how it could easily and ironically detract from the storyline in itself.

As Alan Moore wrote the story, the sex scene is important because it highlights how Dan Dreiberg was literally impotent without his superhero identity.

Regarding the wang bit, it really wasn't clearly described in the movie, but in the comic Dr Manhattan started out with a full skintight suit and helmet, and as he went along he had fewer items of clothing, progressing in parallel with his detatchment from society. I suppose you'd have to have read the comic to get that part, but that's a bit of a double-edged sword because you'd know what the movie left out.

I just saw it last night and very much enjoyed it. Rorschach was GREAT. I loved the character. Yeah, there was plenty of violence and sex but it was appropriate for the story I thought.

My friend leaned over to me at one point with a big smile on his face and said " Damn, this isn't no Spider Man" and he didn't mean it in a negative way. I'm like Nope.. I was getting bored with all the scenes with big blue's schvantz swinging as I didn't see the point. After the initial shock value it seemed like a bit of overkill but the great sex scene on the airship more than made up for the extended pickle show.

I can't wait till it comes out in BluRay as well so I can watch it at home on my own big screen. I think it's one of those type of movies you need to see a few times to see everything.

I would have given it an 8 out of 10 because like what James mentioned, I haven't read the graphic novel so it was all entertaining to me.
