15450 Recommendations

My current collection is entirely Rolex, and I am itching to add an AP. I have always loved the Royal Oak line and think it’s time to add one. I have smaller wrists and will likely go with the 15450. I like both dial colours, but am curious to see what TRF members think is the better dial colour? I would love to get blue but won’t have a shot of getting that at MSRP.

Current collection for reference:

Out of those two I would go for the grey.

i ended up with a blue, but if I wanted to go closer to MSRP...I would have gone grey...

purely my opinion, but the 450 size + white comes off the least sporty and masculine

but, i will say...its all relative, and whites look pretty good in pictures!

I owned the white 15450 and never really bonded with the dial color. Between those two I would vote the gray for sure.

Opposite of the posters above. My vote is for white - the contrast is beautiful. White dial gives a very clean aesthetic.

Go and try em on and pick the one you like the best

Good luck

Honestly this is going to be tough choice even when you compare them in person dial to dial; you will have hard time picking one as both looks very similar yet very different. Believe it or not the silver dial has more wrist presence and reflects under the light in a way that I have not seen. The grey dial is very elegant and classy and will go under the radar. See pic attached; It’s the best I could do, avoiding how the lights reflected on the white dial; it basically shines!!

Definitely the white dial.. you have to see it in person - it practically shimmers!

White 100%. It shines like nothing else. Though you can't go wrong with grey.

Darker dial is easier to read, which to some is important.

15450 is a female's watch. Go 15202 or 15500.

Always there with helpful posts Mike.

You sure seem to have issues with people who have smaller wrists considering watches that would actually fit them. I think you have made the “female” comment now on every similar thread.

You really seem to be stuck on this "female vs. male" watch thing. All 37mm case size watches do not fit the same and there's nothing "feminine" about the 15450. Everyone knows that APs wear larger than their case diameter. Would you consider a Paul Newman Daytona at 37.5mm a female's watch? My God, do you think a male with a smaller wrist should just wear a watch that overhangs his wrist just so he can look "manly?" Tim Mosso has a small wrist but the 15450 looks perfect on him.

So wrong. The watch is gender less. It’s purely based on wrist size.

It looks larger than most 37mm but it depends on the watch you compare with.

in fairness to him it does label the grey dial as women's watch in AP and Chrono24

Why are you reviving the part of the thread from several months back that got the poster banned for his non-stop insistence on the gender of this unisex watch?

15500: Makes your painfully small wrist look smaller. Nice. Fits poorly when lugs extend over wrist. Solution? Grow a larger wrist. That's right, you can't. Fail.
15202: Extremely difficult to get. Costs you your left nut at $45K+. Have $45K to throw? You're probably lusting for a Patek. No seconds hand anyway. Is it even running? Nobody at the club notices your RO costs double the other guy's. You could have paid off your car loan or bought gold spinners. Fail.
15300: Discontinued. Impossible to try on. Order used. Fits? great! Doesn't? "do you take returns?" Ah, didn't think so.
15450: Hitherto a men's size, now marketed as "unisex" to catch the power-girls who also enjoy wearing our Daytonas. Sub $20K, readily available, stunning dial, looks great on small wrists. Success.

Your collection has black and champagne. Why not add white/silver? It catches the light from every angle and literally sparkles. I've got a 6.5" wrist.

I guess you better sell all of your under 40mm Rolex watches right away then! I wouldn’t want you to get too self conscious.
In all seriousness it comes down to personal preference. In my opinion that 15400 looks too big on your 6.5” wrist. However you may like wearing oversized watches and that’s OK.

OP my vote is for the grey, I think it looks industrial in a great way. Both are very nice, you can’t go wrong!

I would go grey. I have the blue and the silver dials, and whilst the silver is nice, it’s a bit ‘smart’ for me as I prefer the more sporty dress-down look.

And don’t worry about what some people think of the 15450, it wears very similar to a Daytona. Some guys just have a size issue, but it’s their issue. Aside from it suiting my wrist size, I actually prefer the case depth to case diameter ratio of the 15450 over other models.

Do you personally think that the blue is worth paying 40% more than the white?

Tough question. For me yes, but only because white dual watches don’t suit my skin tone in my view. If it wasn’t for that, then no.

Hi my friend. The other day, you tried to help me to decide about 15300 and 15450. What is your wrist size? That blue dial 15450 looks great on you! I do not know whether 15450 looks a bit bigger/large on the camera or photos. I seriously liked it much on your wrist.

My wrist is 6.5”. The camera tends to make watches look a touch bigger than they appear to the naked eye, but not significantly. I would say that the 15450 is the perfect size for my wrist. I very slightly prefer the black dial 15300 because it’s more casual (the blue dial on the 15450 really pops in some lighting so is smarter to my eye), but the 15450 fits me slightly better than the 15300 if I’m really honest.
