Done over by an AD

Having recently bought a Rolex dress watch, AD promised a SS (not too fussed about the flavour) within a 'few months', whatever that means. Had several phone calls from same AD over past few days excited to offer me either solid gold or bi-metal professional....provided I buy yet another 'selected' gold watch from stock to go along with it. Following his logic I am into the AD for just under £30k for three watches and still don't have a what I would call a day watch made from Stainless Steel.

I've heard of buying something off the shelf in order to secure a SS piece but this is taking the piss.

Not to mention taking the piss. But so long as there are customers willing to do this, ADs will do it. You can't blame them for trying. They are in business to stay in business.

Try a different AD or go Grey. Or go Tudor.

You should never have purchased that dress watch without receiving the SS watch you wanted at the same time. You fell for this trick. Learn from it and don't make the same mistake again.

Furthermore, anyone who says he just wants an SS watch and is not too fussed about the flavor might as well proclaim that he is much more interested in flipping the watch for a profit than he is in owning the watch. Dealers would rather sell to people who's intention it is to keep and enjoy it.

I wouldn’t buy anything else until they come up with your SS model. Politely refuse anything else.

Hes right. If you are playing that bundling game you secure both watches at the same time. Promises are worthless, you lost all leverage and youre back at zero, that first watch didnt count.

While reading this post, two points jumped out at me. I scrolled down to find both points covered, and covered more thoroughly than I would have bothered. OP, and all other sympathizers, selling watches is a business. Dealers sell with their heads, not their hearts. If you want to not be taken advantage of, buy with your head, not your heart.

Can’t understand it. Salesmen are normally the most trustworthy.

I know. Every single poll lists salesman as the most trusted profession. Journalists and lawyers are tied for second.

I think he's saying two cellini watches, which in all fairness are highly underrated.

I told my AD that I was not going to buy what I wanted to buy now and won’t buy anything in the future until they sold me the watch I wanted. It magically appeared from the safe within the hour.

Take your business elsewhere or remind your SA what they “promised”

Anyone who plays with these ADs and their games is nuts. 30k will buy you 3 or 4 nice used SS models.

Sounds like it's time to find a new AD. But I have to ask, you want a SS Rolex, but you don't care which one? Sounds a little suspicious, and can only mean one of two things: you're looking to flip for a quick profit, or you're overly concerned with following the most popular trends and don't have much passion for this hobby.

My advice would be for you to spend some time researching different Rolex models (or even other brands), and find yourself a watch that speaks to you, regardless of the current trend...then go find yourself a more trustworthy AD. You'll be much happier in the long run.

That was my thought too when I first read the thread, but I must say the current SS collection is so great that most SS models would be a great treat. Hulk, Daytona, Pepsi, Batman, blue SkyD, SD43... would you refuse any of these if you do not have it already?
