Should I wait?
I am on the list for a Hulk w the AD, thinking of asking to switch over to the no date sub. I can’t see myself loving the hulk since I think it would lack versatility for me.
Should I try and get the no date sub now or wait until the movement gets updated at Basel ? I wonder if they do update the movement whether it will even be possible to get one. I feel it will become the next hot steel sports model and we will be in the situation we are in now. Thanks TRF friends |

So you know the movement will get updated at Basel? How do you have this info since Rolex keeps this kind of info top secret?

Yes, you are in the same boat. I was about to purchase Hulk over Black Sub. But the more I look at it the more I like Black Sub better.

I would just wait. Worst case scenario here you walk out the door with a watch with slimmer lugs and a updated movement.

If a new sub gets released next year the worst case is that all VIPs will wan't the new sub and TS will have to wait years to get one.

Would suggest waiting for the Hulk if that what you wanted in the first place

Why are you on the list with your AD for a Hulk if "...can’t see myself loving the hulk since I think it would lack versatility for me. " ?

I owned both at the same time and the Hulk got 90% of wrist time. I ended up selling the 114060. I was a little worried about the green being “too green” before I got mine, but i love it, and that dial is special IMO—almost black in some lighting conditions and bright green sunburst in others.

Unsure whether or not Rolex updates the movement this year. Why would they, the subs are selling like hot cakes. Might be a better bet that an upgrade occurs as demand slows, when the world economy falters a bit. Get what is available to you now.

It's simply good business sense standardizing components instead of having to deal with the older 31xx during the phase out. Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk |

So little chance of getting the Hulk anyway, I would not worry about it!
Get on the Sub wait list |

Why not just add yourself to the ND list and stay on the Hulk list. See which one shows up first and decide. If you need something now why not pick up a Black Bay or a Black Bay 58. I prefer them to the Submariner but I do have the SD43 so I do have a Rolex Diver.

Is the updated movement really going to matter to you while you have the watch on your wrist? 3135 has been around for 3 decades in various Rolex models. I couldn’t care less what the next model is as I like the current one and happy to own it.
That’s the equivalent of not buying a car because of what the next generation might have as additional standard equipment. And if they update the lugs, ( again not that it’s a dealbreaker to me ) get a no date sub now and get a sub date with the new case and updated movement later... assuming it actually happens this year. |

A bird in the hand....

This is sound advise. As others have already stated IF they make updates to the movement and the lugs and those updates calls to you, you can always sell what you acquired since you would have acquired at MSRP. In the interim you have enjoyed the piece. On a personal note as much as I would like to see slimmer lugs I don't see that happening. I think more people love the current case/lugs than not (I am not one of them). The updated movement does not matter to me in this case. |

Unless the extended power reserve is of major importance to you, I'd go with the tried and well-tested 3135.

I think we'll probably see the movement updated on the 116610 models before the 114060 since it can be applied to 7 different models (SS, TT, PM).

I loved my Hulk, but for some reason I ended up not wearing it that much. Maybe it was lack of versatility, maybe not enough contrast for my liking, I'm not really sure what made me not wear it much. I had it for many years, bought it low before it got popular, and sold it for a nice profit. I got a black Sub instead, and I never get tired of it, even though it's technically less "interesting". It just works so well, and is such a classic. That said, the Hulk is amazingly beautiful with its sunburst dial.
As for waiting, I wouldn't bother. They're great as is. If they actually make changes to these models, everyone will b wanting one and they'll be even more impossible to get. |
