Late 40s and looking for one-

To last until the final breath... Just one!! Every single day the rest of the way!!
It can only be one of these two-

Yellow gold DD 40. (228238)

Or

Yellow gold blue sub. (116618LB)

Thanks in advance for the opinions!

Yellow Gold Submariner would be my choice between the two listed.

Wow. Beautiful! Why is this the choice over a YELLOW gold DD40?

I've seen quite a few YG DD40. I have never once seen anyone with a blue YG sub. Plus it is a big F-you gold submariner in blue. What more do you want? It defies all logic or sensibility.

I'd give up all my hot SS models before this one in a second.

But, if they do a significant redesign of the case/movement, I may upgrade to the next YG version at some point.

Plus, I guess it was coincidence, but this was acquired the day before my grandfather was buried. It wasn't planned, but that was the day it came in and I wore it during the occasion. That's a little stupid, because the watch has absolutely no comparison to the value of the relationship. But it was two juxtaposed things occurring at the same time.

I prefer the DD over the Sub.

But one watch for life, you need the gold sub for versatility

DD40, it's the flagship Rolex. Doesn't get better.

I agree the gold DD is the pinnacle of Rolexes and would serve you well in your 50s, 60s, 70s, 80’s and beyond. Whereas the Sub may be a favorite for the first few decades but not when you’re in your 70s+.

I’m 53 but the solid gold Rolex still seems a little too “mature” for me now ... I’m more of a sport watch kinda guy

Me and my BLNR ...

Is that a jacket with a vest or is it all one garment? Looks stylish indeed. BLNR works well with jeans.

Thank you 12o'clockhigh!

It is a single garment. It is not a full vest, just a zippered "filler" on the jacket (that can be removed). It's from Johnston & Murphy (yes, the shoe company) -- I really like their clothing.

I can ALSO guarantee your 16800 has got more underwater time this year (and any year) than mine

BTW, I’ll love to meet up for a beer at Sloppy Joe’s!

Sub, hands down. I turned 40 this year and opted for the white gold instead of yellow. Felt a little younger to me.

Steel for the long term if you ask me. Lighter and more durable.

YG sub. Initially I thought similarly to the gentleman above, but now I wouldn't part company with it ever and have no desire to own a DD anymore.

Mid 40’s here. Jeans and blazer by day, and scotch and soda by night. Bend the occasional wrench and crush the odd cigar on the weekends.

I debated going for a WG Blue Romans DD for a while before this, but the YG Sub ended up being so much more versatile. Really isn’t any setting short of changing a transmission that I wouldn’t wear it in.

I went with the YG Sub over the DD40. I had the budget to get either one. But I'm a sucker for Rolex blue sunburst dials, and no watch does that better than the 116618. The
DD40 is a beauty, but for me it was a bit underwhelming compared to the YG Sub, so I had to go with the iconic Sub

Tough choice. No wrong answer. It’ll be a Rolex!

My choice would be YG Sub. Sport references are my preference. More casual. Folks pull off a YG DD in tee shirt, shorts and sandals at the beach, but not me. You’re the one wearing it.

Happy hunting!

If it could only be 1, I'd got with the sub with a sunburst dial.
