Daytona C List/Reservation SoCal
Hello!
I have always like the Daytona C but knew I never had the chance to walk into an AD and buy one. Neither would I pay the premium to buy on grey market. Lately the bug has been growing. So I've been to a few ADs in socal to get on the "list" but most have refused saying it's way full or they don't do lists. I'm willing to wait the 2-3 years whatever it takes to get one. But wondering if anyone can point me to the right AD in socal that I would put me on such a list. I know the ADs will play favorites etc but maybe one day 5years from now everyone will have the Daytona C they wanted and an AD would call me? Look forward to your thoughts. Thanks! |

Don't wait, go grey. I personally wouldn't go grey, but I don't need/want/like a Daytona. Since it's the hardest of all to get, grey might be an option. Or go precious metal, easy to get and you can't go wrong with gold...

My dealer keeps lists and delivers (got my Daytona 9 months after asking) but would never put a first time customer on it. History counts.

Your only shot is to go Grey IMO. Two superb grey dealers in SoCal are OCrolexguy in LA and justrolexes in San Diego. I have dealt with both and they are trustworthy. You can PM them.

It's unlikely to happen. Maybe toward the end of this model's lifespan you can pick one up for retail, like it was with the 116520, but who knows what retail will be 10 years from now.

And the 116520s were in production for 15 years to to put the demand into perspective and around during a massive recession in the middle of its production run. The 116500s are really the same watch as late 116520s save bezel and sub-dial rings and demand is still crazy. I have a feeling 116500s will have strong demand for years to come if not a decade +

I have a story coming soon in the forums about the Daytona C and a SoCal AD where I have spent over six figures. Been a client for 5 years and still no Daytona C.
Go grey. |

I think your AD realised you are a golden goose who gives eggs daily and would be foolish to give you Daytona and stop getting the eggs!!

If you REALLY want it. Go grey and forget about it.
It might be the only modern reference (any manufacturer) that I would say ‘might’ be worth the premium. Even with relationships at ADs they’re tough to acquire - especially now. Even VIP clients have to wait and wait. They just don’t get enough of them - and now many ADs are tempted to sell for above MSRP — yes it happens, regardless of what anyone says. I’ve seen some tension at my two ADs on a cpl Rolex references and a few Pateks...pretty sad IMHO. And my AD (and old friends) realize the $$ it’s costing them now and no doubt the future potential loss. If I were looking for a Daytona right now - it would be a 16520, hands down. Sadly, I am going to echo what most have said - it most likely will not happen. Your best bet is finding a trusted seller and going grey if you are dead set on the 116500LN. If you don't mind TT, I have seen some in the case and the black and gold is not a bad look.
Another food for thought is going PM into the Daytona. While prices are $25K USD for the white, the PM on Oysterflex is only a couple grand more, and they are really nice IMO. Good luck. |

As many others have said, your best chance is to go grey and pay the premium. I just spoke to my AD the other day (who is in SoCal) and was told the next person up on their Daytona list has been waiting since 2016...
Good luck !

I hope it’s me. That’s when I began waiting for a ceramic Daytona 😊.

I also recommend going grey. Odds are not on your side.

As much as I like the DaytonaC, I don’t think it’s worth what the greys are asking

I felt the same way about it until I tried one on and decided I would just trade 2 lesser worn pieces and a couple grand for one. Sure it's overpaying but I love it. Should be here Tuesday.

When they tell you 2-3 year wait list, they really mean you are not getting the watch. Do you really think they have a long list of strangers and call people one by one? Their best clients get the calls for the hot pieces, not walk-ins off the street.

ADs get the watches. They just sell them to whomever benefits them the most at the moment. Demand greatly exceeds supply so they are very selective. Lists are non-existent. Good customers have waited forever as have been related here many times over.

I am new to Rolex, but have done a lot of reading & research thanks to this forum.
Create a relationship with your AD. They need to trust you, and that you are not in it to sell for a profit. I really wanted the GMT Pepsi and the Daytona C, white dial. I have been in constant touch with my AD. Visited them a few times, talk almost every month. Bought my wife’s watch from them as well. Every interaction with them is very enjoyable - such nice people, you learn something new every time. To my surprise I was able to get the GMT Pepsi after a 3-4 month wait and hopefully will get the Daytona some time this year as well. Relationship is key here. |

In your area ad probably get 5 a yr and probably have 40 existing customers want one now. You can do the math. That is 40 now and in 2021, list goes to 35 then new existing customers

Grey is too inflated in my humble opinion. I understand the DaytonaC is a hotly desired watch and all the buzz now.
Maybe I'll just have to wait until it cools down (joke) or it wasn't meant to be. Money saved I guess |

I’m originally from NorCal and my hometown AD said $100k/year purchase history was the threshold to get on the list for hot SS pieces. I live in the Midwest now, and 2.5 years ago I got on the list with my local AD for the white dial DaytonaC. I fell in love with the watch the moment it was released, but decided to try and be patient to avoid paying grey market prices.
I wouldn’t say I’m a VIP client at my local AD, but I did buy a TT Sub from them and stopped by a few times a year to chat. But as the market continued to heat up, I figured my chances of getting my hands on a DaytonaC were all but gone. Then, two months ago, I was shocked beyond belief when I got the call (completely out of the blue) and raced into the AD to pick it up (before they changed their minds LOL). CA is a tough market to get hot SS pieces unless you are spending big money and building solid relationships with ADs. If you really want a DaytonaC, going grey is probably the only way you are getting your hands on one any time soon. Good luck! |
