Brawny virgin buttons up Melbourne GP!

Un-blooming-believable!

Less than 48 hours ago, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello weren't sure if they'd be about for more than a few races, and suddenly the Brawn team Takes a 1-2!

Whatever luck Richard Branson brings with him, I want some!

They are saying here that they think the Brawn team have about 5 races to get some wins under their belts before the others start catching them with their car set ups.

Good luck to them I say!!!!!!

Great drive by old daddy's boy too.

I wouldn't call that great drive by Shamilton. Bob and Seb tripping over each other, plus the safety car, contributed to the result.

WTF was Rubens doing? More inportantly, WTF were the stewards doing? He was involved in at least two accidents that should have gotten him a stop-go if not a black flag, and he got second? Webber would have done a lot better if his car hadn't been knowcked out of shap by Rubens in lap 1.

Trulli in third showed what the Toyotas can do, flexi-wings or not, although I believe they were the only cars with both diffusers and KERS. In contrast, Glock looks like he's still on Shamilton's payroll.

Good showing by Buemi. I might suspect that he would have made the grid even if his name wasn't Sebastian.

Bad choice by Rosber staying on the super-softs for so long.

It was pretty bloody cheeky of Vettel toolling about the track with one wheel hanging off. Was he hoping to cross the line that way and get some points?

As for the five-race headstart, I'd be surprised if Brawn hasn't already thought that part out and gotten a few cards up his sleeve.

yep , great to see someone different winning and a really close race in F1, won't take the other teams long to get that rear diffuser that Brawn have.

PS : Mercedes power

Great win by Button in the most ugly looking F1 car I can remember for a long while.
Be interesting to see if the row on the rear diffusers will take away his win on appeal. That would relegate both Hondas and the Toyota and make Hamilton the winner. I'm not holding my breath.
Hamilton did well to finish 4th due to mayhem ahead of him, but that won't fool the team that they have a long way to go. Vettel and Kubica had a great race until they decided to take each other off. Kubica and Vettel don't have the dodgy rear diffusers either and Kubica runs without Kers. They look to have a promising season.
Difficult to judge Ferrari as they made wrong tyre choice at start, but looked to have decent pace at times in the race.

Good to see how great Ross Brawn is doing...it all started with Benetton and Schumacher. I enjoyed the race very much. Different this year but I am glad the season started again!

great race imo.

it was quite exciting towards the end for the Brawn GP team. good on them. team Brawn GP must be very proud!

i do like the Brawn GP livery - simple and get to the point. it def. goes with the theme of a "budget" team. it'd be cool if they just change the yellow bits into another colour for '10 season.

good to see Branson sponsoring the team also, now wait and see if there is a price increase on my gym membership.......

I was sure I was going to be unimpressed with the new car - it is exceptionally ugly - but I admit I was pleasantly surprised by how fast it is and how well it raced. The new car doesn't sound right, not revving high enough and the KERS kicking in and out sounds a bit odd but overall I think its going to be quite entertaining.

Austrailia is always a great race anyway as the teams shake down and (usually) blow up their new cars and this time was no different. Boneheaded move by Kubica but I expect to see him actually contend this year (btw, great tire strategy by his team). Give him a new diffuser and KERS and he will be really fast. A new diffuser will also speed up McLaren/Ferrari/Renault so this could end up being a really entertaining year.

And next year we get a team of our own. Hopefully we will also get a US GP - preferrably somewhere besides Indy (which doesn't really work well as a road course).

Brawn !!!! ..........

First race and finishes 1-2 .Fantastic !!!

Weird looking cars this year.Nice shape overall, but the small high rear wing and that huge front wing looking a bit unbalanced.I guess its about rules and function, not aesthetics.I do,however, see a lot of front wings flying in all directions this year !!

Dominant by Brawn, can they continue ? Will they be reliable ? Can the others get their setups right and catch up ? An exciting season awaits us !!!

The Brawm cars seemed bullet proof yesterday, I'm sure the other teams will catch up soon .

Go Brown go!!!!
It was a great race, too bad Vettel and Kubica finished the way they did. What Rubens was thinking at the start of the race?

How would you like to be the Head of Honda that gave up after umteen Billions of $ spent building the team? Then, Your Chasis powered by Mercedes stomps the competition. Ross is the man- where he goes wins follow.

Oh me, oh my.

Quote:
As the chequered flag flew Sunday evening in Melbourne, Jarno Trulli celebrated a fine third position after starting the 58-lap Australian Grand Prix from the pit lane.

The Italian veteran was later handed a 25 second penalty for allegedly overtaking Lewis Hamilton whilst behind the safety car, dropping the Toyota racer to 12th in the results.

Today stewards looked at ‘new evidence’ and concluded that Hamilton had deliberately misled the FIA delegates in Australia. Trulli is therefore reinstated to third position while defending champion Hamilton has been excluded from the results.

A statement issued by the stewards on Thursday evening confirmed that Hamilton and McLaren Mercedes "acted in a manner prejudicial to the conduct of the event by providing evidence deliberately misleading to the stewards."

The stewards said the conduct was in breach of the International Sporting Code.

The final finishing positions for the opening round of the season are; Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello, Jarno Trulli, Timo Glock, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Sebastien Buemi and Sebastien Bourdais.
It's about time McLyin's scummy "if we can't win on the track we'll win in the courtroom" tactics backfired on them.

This just keeps getting better and better:

Quote:
Following the news today from Sepang that Jarno Trulli has had his third position in the Australian Grand Prix reinstated and that Lewis Hamilton has been excluded from the results, McLaren Mercedes this evening made the following statement:

"The FIA Stewards have reviewed their decision of Sunday 29th March 2009, and have excluded Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton from the results of the 2009 Australian Grand Prix."

"Vodafone McLaren Mercedes understands that the Stewards made their decision on the basis of reviewing radio transmissions between the driver and the Team.
"

"The Team mistakenly believed that the radio transmissions had been reviewed by the FIA on Sunday 29th March 2009, and consequently did not believe it was necessary to discuss them with the Stewards on that date."

"Nonetheless, the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team now regrets that it did not do so, accepts the Stewards' decision and will not appeal."
I can't put my finger on why I keep hearing, "The car in those drawings is a Ferrari? Really?".

Well, damn, I've now got one more reason to put my hand on my heart and call Shamilton and his team liars and cheats.
