Datejust II 116334
Greetings! Does anyone else own this timepiece (My only Rolex)? And does the fact Federer achieved these accolades increase its popularity etc? I’ve never come across this watch in the wild and I’ve not seen any of you fellow enthusiasts with this on your WRUW posts. It’s a beautiful watch. I did initially consider trading it in towards a SkyDweller (similar style) but I’ve since changed my mind. I still long for the SkyD, and BLNR, but I’ll be keeping this. Let’s see your photos and thoughts on this time piece! Here’s a video of him discussing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsBLfyxeSqA Background: Perhaps the most famous watch Roger Federer owns is his Rolex Datejust II. On a number of occasions, he has spoken about its personal significance, because it was the timepiece he was wearing in 2009, after he defeated Andy Roddick, lifted the Wimbledon trophy and broke Pete Sampras’ all-time Grand Slam record. It is a stainless steel model, with a silver dial and blue Arabic numerals, making it one of the most understated watches in his collection. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I really like that watch and have considered searching it out in the past. I looked at it years ago at an AD but went a different route. I wish Rolex would offer more arabic numeral lumed dial options, personally I love them.
Federer having one would have zero influence on me wanting one. |

I don’t own this particular model, but love the dial color combination. Seems to make a watch that has the tendency to be somewhat formal a little more casual and versatile.

It hasn't really been discussed on a WRUW thread, or maybe I've not come acrossed it. It's a lovely watch, and I especially like the colour blends.

I’m not a fan of Arabic numerals on a watch, but silver dial with blue batons would look stunning.
Still it’s a little different, I’m pleased you enjoy it. |

I own it, and I love this watch. I had been a professional reference wearer for decades. First a Tudor Sub, then a GMT Master II 16710 pepsi.
When I started looking a little more closely at the New 40mm Air-King, initially I wasn't happy that it was a No-Date complication watch. For this reason, the first watch I turned to was the DJII Arabic. I especially love the two tone Lume, where the hands are Super-Luminova, and the numerals are Chromalight. It has great class, and looks good both as a casual watch and a dress watch. Of course, I did end up buying the Air-King three years later, and am happy with my small collection. |

Beautiful watch.
Datejust II is a remarkable watch and to this day, I am surprised they discontinued the model.

I've had 4. I liked the black index the best.

Four. Nice! :)
I've seen a fair few DJII out and about (in the wild, as they say) but never this one.

I haven't seen too many of the Arabic silver dials either.

That looks great. I haven't taken my blue baton DJII out of the safe for a couple months since I've been working from home but after seeing your pic I may just have to go grab it. The DJII is such an underrated watch.

It's a great reference. I have the DJII sticks but I really love this one. It's so rare on top of everything else. I would love to own one.

He leaves the plastic on? RF is a flipper. He has tons of Rolex watches. He played in a yellow gold GMT once. Yes I think when a brand ambassador is someone who is awesome it helps sell the product.

It’s a lovely reference and I’m a huge fan of the DJ2 with three in my collection.
All mine are baton dials but the one being the topic of this thread I could easily add to the stable if I come across a nice example. |

FWIW -> The DJII’s did nothing for me in the beginning.Felt the watch was out of proportion. But IRL they are very comfortable to wear with a good wrist presence. Especially the bezel pops out. Accurate movement and they can take a hit, build like a tank.
The Rolex catalog in the pics is from 2010.

Anyone got a fluted rhodium baton dial DJ2 they could post pics of? I’m thinking of adding one at some point. And how readable do you feel the dial is? Do the hands blend in to the face or not?

I’ve always liked that dial, rarely seen on any other model, really sharp.

I personally think it looks terrible on him and he should have gone 36mm.

The DJII crown looks too big and clumsy on him. But I'm sure he got the watch as a free gift from Rolex so it's irrelevant. |
