Any seiko owners out there?

I’m about to pick up a seiko turtle as a pool, yard work, fishing, etc beater. As I don’t want to beat the crap out of the sub ceramic with some of these activities. Anyone out there own one?

I am thinking of sending it to this guy “shadow watch maker” whom patinas the lume plots, bezel, etc...

I use my turtle as a beater all the time, great watch, and inexpensive. The bezel is aluminium, so will scratch, but if you don't mind that, it's fabulous!

Got to ask why ask this question on Seiko watches in the Rolex watch forum when there is clearly posted a Seiko discussion watch forum.

I guess OP wants to see if there are Rolex owners like him who also own Seiko watches.

Though if he just researched more he would readily see that there are a lot.

The turtle is a great watch and one of my favorites. Get one, have the patina done and enjoy.

The only problem with the Turtle is that you might find you enjoy wearing it more than your Sub.

I love the sub but just want something that won’t make me cringe if I scrape it on the side of the pool, hit it with car parts,
Etc.

I used to have a turtle and loved it. Right now I have a Seiko skx013 and enjoy wearing it as much as I enjoy wearing my Datejust!

Have multiple Rolexes and Seikos, including multiple Turtles. Probably wear the Seikos more.

I enjoy my SRP773 Turtle. The one caveat is the rubber strap. It picks up so much lint. However, it’s very comfortable. You will enjoy it. The lume is probably the best on the market.

I know what you mean. It's still a super comfy strap but so annoying! Check out a Crafter Blue fitted for that model. Absolutely superior and not a lint catcher.

My modded turtle runs a consistent +2 sec per day. My history w/ Seiko, be it vintage or new, has proven they are built like tanks and present an incredible value.

Hi Dan. Did you get your turtle regulated? I have a SKX and it’s consistent but +18 a day. Contemplating doing a DIY attempt at slowing it down a tad.

I honestly can't remember if I did a regulation on the Turtle. I've regulated many of my modded Seiko's, which can be hit & miss, when doing by hand. Takes time to get it close but doable.

I had a turtle that I regulated...

Basically, I checked the daily rate over like a week

Then opened the caseback, used a toothpick to regulate, closed it and tried it again

I did it over and over until I got it to be within cosc (or better)

Takes a while but is enjoyable and worth it

Thanks Jesus,

That’s what I intended to do as well, as a project. But having issues opening the case back.

I did the same with my "Turtle Save the Ocean" but with the aid of a timegrapher. It's now plus two seconds or better. Great watches and wear much smaller than their size suggests.

Hey Dan!

Does your turtle still have the original movement in it ?

Or did you do a movement mod?

I easily wear my Seiko watches twice as much as my Rolex watches. I run in spells and depending on the weather and time of year, I am almost exclusively Seiko and Tudor.

Check out the king turtles (SRPE03, SRPE05 and SRPE07), they have ceramic bezels and sapphire crystals.
