Daytona 116518LN vs 116508

Hi. I'm hoping to hear people's thoughts on the 116518LN yellow gold black/champagne with Oysterflex versus the 116508 yellow gold black/champagne with oyster bracelet.

I am casually looking at both watches and I haven't really had one rise up over the other. I genuinely like both of them and each has their own pros/cons.

I already have the 116500LN SS white dial in my collection, so that makes me feel like the 116508 will fit into the collection better.

I know it will come down to personal preference as to what's important, but it's always good to hear some fellow enthusiasts weigh in with their point of view.

Thanks!

I prefer my Daytona with bracelet. The bracelet construction and comfort, brilliant!

Here are some pictures of the 518 I previously had. It was a beautiful watch, but I was never able to get comfortable with the lack of adjustability on the Oysterflex. Easylink was not enough. I recently picked up a 126655 that has Glidelock and it feels much better.

Aesthetically, I preferred the black and gold contrast of the 518. The rubber and ceramic was also more practical, imo.

However, I agree that the 508 would fit in better with your 500. I do not have experience with a full PM bracelet, but hopefully my take on the 518 helps you in your decision!

I added some full PM Daytona’s first and I’d probably do it that way again.

It’s nice to get the full hit of PM. Later I added the WG oysterflex and I love it so much it could easily be my daily.

So comfortable and works in every situation. I must admit the reason for the oysterflex was an under the radar daytona. Ceramic hides and protects the WG but you can feel it on the wrist and that’s what matters to me.

So I probably wouldn’t go for the YG/RG oysterflex as I wanted an under the radar casual PM on rubber.

I’d go for full PM in your case.

If I recall you had a 26331OR AP before which means you should know your tolerance on bezel scratches for PM watches. If you don’t care, then full PM is the way to go. If it bothers you, then stick with a ceramic bezel on the OF. Also might as well wait on new releases before deciding to see if the add ceramic to full spam or not.

You have a good memory, and you definitely bring up a good point. The ceramic most definitely would be a great way to limit the PM scratches/swirls you're bound to get. My only concern is I have the 116500 and I am not sure I want to add another very similar model.

Such a difficult decision, partly because I wonder how any of these "fit" into the collection. The other thing that makes it hard is I genuinely love Daytonas so there isn't any of them I'd kick out of bed. I'm trying to think what will make me happier longer term because changing your mind in this hobby costs money

I prefer the 518 but they are so similar it's hard to pick a favorite. I also don't own the white dial Daytona either so makes my decision a little easier. Tough choice for you.

I’m in the minority who prefers the gold bezel to the ceramic. I have the 116505 and I bought it assuming I’d occasionally put it on the oysterflex from my Yachtmaster but I haven’t ever wanted to take the bracelet off yet.

The Daytona on OF looks soooo good! But with that being said if you're trying to complement your 16500 I would go with the full gold option with the gold bezel.

Get the 08 full gold. You can pickup an aftermarket gold endlink on eBay and factory oysterflex from AD to switch it up. The 18 your stuck with the oysterflex or a leather strap. Basically, the 08 will give you more options.

This is absolutely on my mind, however, I was also looking at the RubberB black rubber bracelet. I'd have to use the gold clasp from the Oyster bracelet.

Does anybody know if an AD will sell an Oysterflex bracelet, and do you have a choice on just the strap or do you have to purchase it with a clasp? I imagine a Oysterflex with yellow gold clasp isn't exactly cheap.

You can’t get it from and AD without a matching watch but you can find the pieces themselves (no clasp) on the forums here or chrono24 pretty easily. Or if you know someone with an oysterflex model they can probably get them from an ad for you. Approximately $600 for both halves

I don't like the endlinks on the OF Daytona, so -508 all the way for me.
