With those two watches it's to retire from the world of collecting. The rest is pure vice.

I personally think that owning a Sub of any reference and a Speedmaster Pro is the quickest shortcut to a quintessential two watch collection.

I would only add that a more dressy watch would be nice, but then that would be a three watch collection.

Very nice.

I have a Submariner and the Speedmaster Pro. I always thought a JLC Reverso would be the perfect watch to complement them.

However, I just don't need a pure dress watch. I'd only wear it about once a month. I think a Datejust is a better fit for my lifestyle.

Actually, you can wear a pure dress watch any time. For casual wear, the dress watch is as flexible as it gets.

I never wear anything more fancy than a t-shirt and jeans and I wear dress watches all the time, often vintage.

So I had your 2 and the JLC master control date. Loved it, but hardly ever wore it. I agree datejust would get more wear. I am also considering adding a Nomos, simple white dial/black strap, under 2k.

Honestly no.

These are two most widely recognised watches that ever existed.

There are obviously specially commissioned pieces that fetch astronomical amounts or are packed with complications but these two are unbeatable.

Only others for mass recognition would be the Cartier tank and the Rolex day date

I’d throw a Datejust on Jubilee in there too.

Hard to beat the duo posted by the OP (nice taste by the way),

But, I would have to agree with this.... A Datejust and a Day Date maybe the duo.

As far as being the brand iconic watches I would agree the fluted DateJust or DayDate are more iconic than the Submariner in the case of Rolex. When it comes to ownership I would choose the Sub and day. Just my preference.
The Speedmaster (the three sub-dial version not the two dial version which I unfortunately purchased) is definitely the correct choice for Omega.

Agree, I got the same 2 watches this year, they are a great combo!

Looking to add the BLNR and Daytona over the next 7 -10 years to complete my Land, Air, Sea and Space collection.
