Sending a watch through USPS registered mail

My CC company asked me to go ahead and ship the watch back (original thread: http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=75636).

I'm going to send it back Registered Mail. Should I also get signature confirmation? It's an option on registered mail, but it seems redundant as I think you have to sign for registered mail.

You already have to sign for registered mail, however make sure you insure it for the correct amount.

And it takes forever to get there and it is not track-able, so be forewarned!

Forget the registered mail option, go Express overnight with Signature Confirmation and insure for full value. I bet it doesn't even cost $50 and you can track it and it MUST be signed for, plus you can see online when and by whom it was signed by and then supply that info to your CC company.

Send it USPS Express Mail, w/ the full insured amount. Remember to send a copy of the Tracking # to the CC Company, once the package is received, the signature is available on the USPS website and the seller can not deny he did not receive it. I would assume the faster it gets to the seller, the quicker the CC wheels of justice will turn in your favor.

PS - I read your previous thread where the seller wouldn't honor the 3 day return policy, perhaps you should post a thread in the WATCH OUT section, to warn others of these shady sales practices.

The only bad thing about Express is that you can only insure it up to $5,000.

I use USPS, registered, express mail, return receipt insured at full value. From Atlanta to Texas takes two days. Never had a problem. As they say at the PS, lose a red and you are dead. I just look at a receipt and the cost was $28.80 and the insurance value was $8,000.00 and I tracked the package online for an additional $1.00.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I would insure it for less than 5000, so the express mail insurance isn't a problem. Express mail with insurance comes out to about $40 or Priority with registered comes out to about $25. I'm pleasantly surprised that the prices are reasonable.

The Hope diamond was mailed from South Africa to England by a
government civil servant using third-class parcel post.

My watch arrived via Registered; the seller/collector says it is the best way to ship watches.
