buying online?
Ive decided on buying the AK with silver face.... It is $4200 from my AD with a 10% discount for paying cash, but Im in Texas and can add 8% sales tax... so Ive been looking at some online dealers..... alanfurman.com and also swissluxury.com....... are these type places reputable?? will I be getting a new watch, with all the correct papers??..... when it needs to be serviced, where would I take it?, just send it back to rolex?? any help would be greatly appreciated as Id like my first buying experience to be a good one..... Jim

I've bought a watch through swissluxury.com without a problem. There are several members who have bought from both. Do a search on the forums for both of them and I think you'll find that they'll be just fine. You will be getting a BNIB watch with all the paperwork, you just won't have the 2 year Rolex warranty, but a warranty from the Gray Dealer's watchmaker, which you'll most likely never use. If it needs service you can either send it back to Swiss Luxury, or you can send it to the RSC, doesn't matter. These are 100% Rolex watches...

Jim,
Grey Dealers, such as the ones you mention, are legitimate businesses and sell authentic Rolex watches. Generally they will have been imported from an area such as Hong Kong and come with all the papers and accessories that the original Dealer provided to them. Frequently the original warranty card has either the address or the dealer name erased or marked out, usually by the original AD where they imported the watch from, but it is irrelevant since Rolex USA seldom honors a Grey Market warranty. Rolex will always service any authentic Rolex, regardless of where it was purchased, you just have to pay for it.. I understand that Alan Furman includes their own lifetime warranty on the Rolex watches they sell.

Several of my colleagues/friends have purchased at Alan Furman and have been delighted with the prices and experiences there. I have no experience with Swiss Luxury, though...

AF has a brick and motor store, as do some of the other greys. They have an excellent reputation.

I have dealt with www.demesy.com and www.highlinetime.com and BOTH times were 100% satisfied. Both followed up daily and then the post-receiving followup to be sure I was satisfied and knew how to set the watch, etc. Do your homework bigtime before you get that "ebay urge" and hit the "Buy It Now" button!

I have bought from Bernard Watch, DeMesy, and Swiss Luxury twice. Wouldn't hesitate to buy from any of them again.

As everyone says, buy the seller. Get good references on the seller.

I have heard good things about Furman. However, I have had great luck on TRF -- check out the seller reviews.
