Why the Submariner should cost $980

This is very scientific--try to keep up. I've just been offered a Sea Dweller by my AD at (of course) msrp, which is $12,600. The watch is rated to 12,800 feet. That shakes out to roughly $0.98 per foot of water resistance. Thusly, apply the same logic to the Submariner, and you arrive at $980. I plan to suggest this pricing scheme to Rolex. Will keep you posted.

In all seriousness, as excited as I am to be offered any ss sports model (a first for me!), I think I'm going to decline this one and hold out for the 43mm or a Sub (any config) whichever comes first. This is too much watch for me---both physically and monetarily, not that the 43 is much less. Hopefully that also signals to the AD that I'm not just looking to flip something.

Some other lucky buyer can harpoon this sea creature. I don't think they'll have any trouble moving it.

In my experience, there is not much physical difference between the Deepsea and the 43mm Sea Dweller. Of the two, I would go with the Deepsea. Much cooler watch.

I disagree. The DSSD is leaps and bounds different as it relates to wearability. The DSSD is an absolute tuna can. Not many can pull it off. The SD43 is much more wearable. Think of it as a slightly beefed up Sub. The DSSD is the better watch IMHO, the thickness is massive though and is a non-starter

It wears different on everyone, but this was my experience as well. I hated my DSSD as soon as I bought it My SD43 wears just a hair bigger than a sub. I notice more weight difference than size difference in 43 vs sub.

Can't find a $10,000 sub in a store, imagine a $980 sub LOL. On the flip side, maybe the ADs would once again be full because it wouldn't have the "investment" following at a reasonable price.

I was going to say exactly the same thing. After trying both I found the DSSD to be almost unwearable due to how thick and top heavy it is. The SD43 on the other hand (although large for a Rolex) is much more comfortable and sits better on my wrist. This has been the case for others that I know who have tried both as well.

Watches are definitely reliant on personal taste, but relatively speaking the DSSD wears much differently than the SD43.

I had the Sd43. Aesthetically its a beautiful watch but I found it top heavy and cumbersome on the wrist. I can’t imagine what the deepsea wears like, but I guess it wouldn’t be for me. I have a 7 3/4 wrist too.

I had and wore a Deep Sea for 18 moths exclusively...
Ended up selling it and buying a 126600...
Could not be happier...
