Just awoke from my WIS coma and..

WOW.. This market is unbelievable!!!!!!! I settled down with a lean and mean collection a few years ago, and I have been totally blind to the incredible demand and extraordinary grey market value for Rolex and Patek!!!

I get the regular brochures and catalogs from my local ADs, but I have not paid attention to the watch world. Recently, I thought about adding another watch for the outdoors, but with COVID-19 and the holiday season, I haven't been motivated to see my AD.

The other day, a friend asks me if I would ever consider parting with my ceramic GMT. I was a little freaked out by this question, I had just thought about the fact that I do not use the second time zone complication as much as I used to. I wondered why he would ask me this question, thinking it wasn't like some grail piece.

Before I could formulate a response, he makes me (what I thought was) an obscenely high offer! I start typing a reply, and then I pause and go to the watch recon website ... then, it happened: I realized that I had completely missed something HUGE going on in the market!!!!!

I was shocked. I figured the pandemic could have something to do with the demand, but is this really, primarily driven by Chinese demand?!

I have one incoming, but wow..

It is always interesting to read reaction of folks living under the rock or out of touch! Reminds me of that old man selling his GMT Master bought in 60's!

After the shock sort of wears off - now is his offer something you'd consider?

When I talked to my ADs earlier about various SS sports models, I felt like Patrick Bateman trying to get a same-day table for two reservation at Dorsia (they just laughed at me on the phone). Everything I like is in the unobtainium category now. Incredible!!!

Cheers to all

I was where you are about a month ago after a Rolex "break" since 1991. When the sales tax of your second Rolex almost equals the purchase price of your first, you've been away for awhile...

Most of us have been watching (no pun intended) the market evolve over the recent years and still find it a bit surprising. I can't imagine what it must feel like after being "away" for the past 5+ years!

Reminds me of earlier this year when actor Jared Leto came out of a multi-week retreat where he didn't have ANY connection with the outside world and when he came out, we were in the midst of a global pandemic. A bit of a shock to the system, :)

It seems to have ticked up recently. With no recovery in sight and all this talk of resets and no one owning anything by 2030. It seems a few people are trying to own watches. Who they are supposed to give them to by 2030 is anyone's guess.

Just awoke from my WIS coma and..

Welcome back! It’s absoutely nuts. Completely silly. But some of us addicted ones are still trading, albeit at elevated prices.

The “it can’t last” folks pop up from time to time. But I think we have several more years of this silliness. And even when it stalls, any dip will never erase all the gain. Just a dip. Supply vs demand. You would not think that so many people want a Rolex or Patek, but they do; and they can afford them.

Enjoy your watches! And post pics of the incoming.

I realized last June after waiting let’s just say dozens of months for a 116508 JM, I might not actually ever see one. I am first on their list for one but this AD has never seen one either. What a strange way to do business!?

I gave up and went grey in June but for a TT Bluesy. If the other one never arrives, I no longer care...
