A very rare Day Date for you guys to see ....

This is a 5.9 million serial (1979) Day Date, this is one of the very first
sapphire crystal Day Dates ever made. Rolex made plastic Day Dates
until the early 6 million serial, so this is a truly "transitional" watch. The
dial is a rare chocolate brown enamel Vignette. Rolex made lots of this
style dial in blue and red, but very few in brown. I have only seen one
other in 15 years of collecting. I bought this watch 2 years ago NOS
out of a safe in Thailand. The best part for me is that it is complete.
Boxset, papers, numbered tags, everything that it had when it left the
dealer 30 years ago. My favorite watch- for now

Stunning patina on the gold.Mint condition,Is it a Double Quickset?.PS I remember my first rolex at 19.They had the plastic crystal and they where releasing the sapphire crystal on the date. The dealer said wait a month they are coming out .That was the longest month, more like 3 months.I was so proud when I got it.When we were 15 or 16 years old.We would look with envy at sharp dressed,Black Cadillac wise guys wearing the Rolex President. We called them (made it watches).Generals wear medals,Wise guys weared rolexes is what they would say

The only rare with that watch is you still have it.

Great find my friend, a bling, bling dial that fits you perfect.

Jocke

BTW. Transitional, my ass it's just a home converted plastic version.

Larry,

Great photos; great watch!

I particularly like the satin finish lugs on the older Day-Dates; and especially with that dial.

I can see why this one is your favorite "for now."

What a great looking watch. Love the contrast between the brown dial(with diamonds) and yellow gold case and bracelet!!!
