Double incoming - Daytona & Overseas

So this week has been quite a week!

The Daytona has always been one of my favorite watches in terms of design. I was actually lucky enough to pick up the SS Daytona at retail at Singapore airport back in 2016. Talk about right place, right time. While I've never been a fan of two-tone watches, I remember seeing a huge ad of the two-tone Daytona with the black dial in Singapore hanging across ION Mall on Orchard Road. For reasons I cannot explain, it has never left my mind for all these years. I thought it was one of the most beautiful variations of the Daytona. Fast forward a couple years and a few watches later, I finally decided to put down my name and received a call last week that they had received the two-tone but with a white dial. Stopped by the AD, tried it on and sealed the deal. The white dial adds a very clean and elegant aestethic to the watch and I will keep it for now, especially since it's summer. I might switch it out for the black dial later down the road.

My honeymoon with the Daytona didn’t last very long. While I was at the Rolex AD, I received a text that one of my other long awaited watches had arrived - the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time.

So out of Rolex I went and headed straight to Vacheron. It’s difficult to describe how beautiful this piece is. You really have to see it in person - the finishing and quality is just something else and in my opinion far above Rolex. The polishing on the Maltese motif on every single link is incredible and quite mesmerising to look at in person when doing a wrist roll. Understated but elegant at the same time. At 41mm the Dual Time is the same diameter as the time only but is quite a bit thicker which you definitely notice on the wrist. For me I prefer this to the time only Overseas as I think the proportions work better for the size of the watch - similar to how I prefer a 5980 to the 5711 in terms of proportions. It is build very solid and you definitely notice the weight, which is a good thing IMO. The best way I can think of to describe how it wears is, it sits between a normal Royal Oak and a Royal Oak Offshore. A nice sweet spot in my opiniony. My TT Daytona almost feels light in comparison. In my eyes one of the best sports watches currently on the market.

The honeymoon is still going, you're just having a threesome. Congrats on the pickups and that TT Daytona definitely does look good on you!

Congrats on the TT, looks amazing! One of the best looking Rolexes made. Can't argue about some of the other watches you mention. VC is a very high quality piece.

Haha yes, that's one way to look at it. They are both really quite different and complement each other perfectly. TT Daytona being more dressy while the Overseas is more sporty.

Thank you! This is my first TT watch and I am really liking it so far. Not sure why I always thought TT had an "old man" touch to it, but then again I thought the same about the Datejust Jubilee until few years ago

Thanks, it certainly was! Already thinking about what to add next. I think I may need to force myself divert my attention to some other hobbies for a while...

Thanks! Which model are you considering? The Overseas line are fantastic watches and wear more comfortably on the wrist than a Royal Oak on a bracelet. I suspect my Overseas will get a lot more wrist time, given that the RO is a scratch magnet anyway.

I just hope they will bring out some more color options for the rubber strap soon - they had a white and orange color strap but those were limited and apparently you can't get them anymore.

I’ve been looking at the dual time and the chrono. Since I’m not a huge Daytona fan, I was drawn to VC when looking to add one, but now I like them both but I already own a GMT…either way I suspect a VC is in my future!

Congrats! Both are great pieces, but I agree that the VC appears to be next level and then some. In this case I think your picture does do it justice, because it looks amazing. Well done!

My wrist size is about 7". The links of the Daytona don't flare out much and overall wears smaller and more elegant than a Submariner. ADs often have exhibition pieces not for sale, but they'll let you try them on.

Thank you! The Dual Time complication is also quite useful (never actually used a chrono). Layout is debatable, I know some people love symmetry in their watches and would find this asymmetric design very unappealing. For me, I think it adds charm to the watch. It's quirky and different and makes it unique.

The first pic is proof that AD’s have Rolex’s in the back for people they want to sell them too.
