First Compliment?
Do you remember your first compliment on your Rolex (a compliment that was not from an A.D., family member, friend or acquaintance)?
I am talking about your first compliment from a complete stranger. I had never had one until the other day. I took the kids to breakfast at a country kitchen style place in the middle of the desert. As I was leaving, a small man with a cane, maybe about 45 or fifty, was taking pictures of the restaurant. I said, "Oh, are you on vacation?" He said, "Nope, live just a few miles from here. By the way, do you want to trade watches?" He held up his wrist and was wearing a Timex. He then added, "I'm sure you don't but that watch you are wearing is simply fantastic. I have always wanted one." I must admit, I felt really good that someone had recognized the watch for what it was, a Rolex (in this case GMTIIC TT). Do any of you remember your first compliment? That first one sure meant a lot to me. |

Never had a comment. I'm not aware that anyone has even noticed my watch.

Only had my Rolex watches for a few days now, but the only total stranger comment I have had so far was on my Omega Planet Ocean XL Orange bezel watch.

yes there is one..when i first bought my LV sub..it was in the early series where the green color was not that common..i remember i was walking down the street while i was waiting for the traffic to cross. a guy was standing next to me..then he said u have a piece of art..not because its a rolex classic sub but because he liked the green bezel ..so i thought ok.. there is one guy who liked the green color apart from me...
nice feeling

My first two were in the same day.
First customer was a kid about my age. We were standing on the boat dock talking and all of a sudden he said "what is that" I said a rolex submariner. He said your a bad a$$. I told him its just a watch, and he proceeds to yell at everyone around that I was a bad a$$ and I wore a Rolex. Kind of embarrassing. Second guy came in on a nice boat and we were talking sports. He looked at my folded arms and said great watch. I told him I loved it and I was really into watches. He told me he just bought the same watch. He then called me over to the boat and said look at this. He pulls out a white face Panerai. He let me hold it, try it on, and said that it was a really hot watch within his group. Now were like best friends.

I received a nice compliment over my GV, but it was from an AD. He'd never seen one before, and actually called over the other salespeople in the store. They all got a good look at it, then grumbled about how they'd never had one in the shop. Guess they're still rare to some people..

A couple of times at school, one of my friends liked my Tag and asked where he could get one. I just told him my dad gave it to me. He has this Movado, pretty dressy and sharp!

I was in The Sharper Image last year with my Yacht-Master and this young salesman says "what kind of watch is that"? I told him "It's a Rolex" and showed it to him. He said "I noticed it because it sparkled so much! I've never seen a watch sparkle like that!" He made my day. Pretty safe to say he's never seen Yuma's watches!

I have only received a compliment on my timepieces at a local convenience store.
But alas, I didn't buy them for the compliments I would receive, but for the satisfaction of owning the finest timepieces ever made.

I think the only comment I have gotten on any of my watches so far is "wow that's a big watch" (Stowa Seatime with yellow face) and "so how many watches do you have now" from my friend that doesn't get the watch appreciation thing I guess.

I've received a few compliments on both my DJ and my Sub. When were were in St. Thomas last year at an AD, the sales woman flipped over me wearing a Sub. Kind of nice getting a compliment from another gal! My service tech at the car dealer noticed my DJ last year (don't think he knew it was a Rolex) and complimented the size.
In all honesty I'd prefer to not have others notice what I'm wearing. I'm quite a private person and I wear my watches for me. |

It was the oddest thing, but the day I first bought my Rolex I went to eat at Outback with my wife and the waitress walked over to us and after greeting us said, "Oh, I love your watch!". It caught me off guard and no one said anything about the watch again for some time after that, but my head was the size of a hot air balloon that night

The only time a total stranger ever commented on my watch she said, "Nice watch. Seiko?"
I said, "Thank you. Glad you like it." Jeannie |

I only get comments when I walk into jewelry stores. Generally, that's the first thing salespeople do is look at a customers watch/jewelry to size up what kind of customer they are. Never got a comment on the street.

I was standing in line to pay for my stuff at Costco this past weekend and I noticed the young male cashier looking down at my watch. (I'm 46 and he looked early 20's.) As he was ringing me up and told me how much he really liked my watch. I told him thanks, it's the new DeepSea. He said, Oh I know, Rolex Sea-Dweller DeepSea! It's a beauty! It really made me feel good and the fact that he knew what kind/model watch it was pretty cool too.

nope.
In my country, strangers will stare at your wrist to see what you are wearing but keep to themselves rather than complement a total stranger. Not because that they are rude, but its just in the culture. Mum always told me "Never talk to strangers". |

No such luck
I have never had a comment on my Rolex but used to get comments on a Tag Heuer Monaco I owned every time I went out to a club. I'd just be standing at the bar and someone would mention it, I guess the square case made it stand out.
Once you are into watches though it is amazing how many conversations there are to be had with people, it seems like everyone has an opinion. |

Compliments from Japanese are very rare. They are generally wary of strangers.
But on and off one of my office staff would oggle my watch and then make a comment. |

None verbally on my Rolex, although I have got looks. Now my Panerai has gotten several comments.....and the best thing is that they have no idea of how special it is!
