Journe or lange

I am considering one of these 2 on the secondary market.
The lange 1815 chrono, rg white dial, journe cs rose gold white dial, they actually are priced the same. Forgetting what else I own, which would you get and why.

It’s silly but I would wear the Journe more. I just don’t favor the 1815 chrono even though the movement is maybe without peer.

My heart says Journe.

Completely agreed. It is also kind of apple to orange too.

I would get the Lange for the finish and execution but Journe just for the love of it.

The 1815 ticks all the boxes for me. Railroad tracks, club markers, cut away dials, Teutonic font, heritage, assembled twice. Basically the closest you’ll get to a pocket watch on your wrist.

FPJ great too. Just not something I’m close to picking up yet.

Manual wound PM chronos such as the 1815 don't fit my life style. When I am wearing a PM dress watch I don't need any chrono function and when I could use the chrono function I need to wear a tool watch that can take a beating. Not sure I will ever get a manual wound PM chrono for its horological merits alone w/o getting much wear out of it.

From a design perspective I prefer the RG white dial CS over the 1815 chrono as well. In fact this is exactly the Journe I'd pick if I were to get on the list today. Simple man likes basic kit. My only concern is the 40mm size. The 39mm of the CB is perfect for this design. The bezel looks wide on the 40mm CS and a narrow on the out-of-production 38mm variant.

You make a really good point about a dress watch not needing tool watch complications. That's a good way to look at it.

My thoughts exactly. I was lucky to snag the out of production 38mm variant new, however mine is in rose gold, so the FPJ CS for me.

You're a lucky dog for getting a 38mm, that's a great great piece.

You're a brave man pairing it with that strap though lol

Both. Buy the watch you personally want right now and save for the other one to buy later. But if it was me, I'd buy the Journe first if I didn't own one yet. They are just special watches to wear. The Lange is also a very special watch in its own way. Really you can't go wrong with either. So both.

Another thought. Buy the Lange now at used market and get on the waitlist at the Journe boutique. Save up for the Journe while waiting for the next two years. You may actually come out ahead money wise and end up with both watches.

On the secondary market they are the same. I am not the type who will wait 3 yrs for a watch, my tastes will change by the time I get it. The lang we is the better value, we 3lling uses under list, the journe over list

In that case, I would go with the Journe today with you love it. I know the Lange is very compelling in terms of price and refinement. But Journe is just special. I also feel that if you resell the Journe a few years from now, you may be able to recover more money.

I personally do not sell any of my watches (which I should) but since you said your taste changes often, you may want to consider resale value.

Wow! Strong representation toward the Journe CS. I. Chose the Pt. Datograph vs. the 1815 Chrono and have been eyeing the CS; with its svelte case and twin barrel RG movement.

I think you would enjoy both immensely. Good luck!

definitely the lange. I prefer lange’s look generally and love the 1815 chrono; but personal taste the idea of possibly the best no-date chronograph on the market being priced the same as a time only fpj just seems bonkers to me.

personally I much prefer it to fpj. objectively with RR I think you’re paying for the increased scarcity… lot fewer of them out there than FPJs.

Agreed. I feel that voutilainen is a good middle ground but it is also getting harder to get your hands on it.

I think I am getting OT now…

I looked at that FPJ last year before things went even more crazy for FPJ. The watch looked great in photos and on paper, but in the hand, it did nothing for me.

Hopefully it moves you enough to buy.

On paper, I still like the FPJ more than the Lange here.

Out of left field, I went AP after a similar decision to yours.

You don’t

KV much easier to get I believe. Possible that’s changed though.
