Do you wear your Rolex around in-laws?

The holidays are here. Is wearing your Rolex when family is around an issue?

I have never had an issue with it. Family sees far more proof of success and wealth then what is portrayed by what watch I choose to wear. Would be like asking if I can share vacation pictures with family. Someone always has more and someone alway has less so I don’t give it much thought.

All this being said if I was the only person “successful” that would be there I would just not wear it. Unfortunately this is another side effect of the hype and more people knowing what these watches actually cost.

No issues. My in laws are the kind of people who revel in seeing my wife and I do well. She and I gifted my grandfather-in-law a Rolex. Thinking about doing the same for my father and mother in law. But they would probably enjoy the $ to put towards a trip or something over a material good.

Was at my in laws the other day and was watching a pawn shop thing on the tv. Guy was trying to sell a vintage Rolex Daytona.

My father in law said ‘I hate those bloody things
Who in their right mind would pay thousands and thousands for a bloody watch’

I discreetly slipped my jumper over my watch

My father in law is the one who got me hooked on Rolex... so yes, I would probably get some questions if I showed up to the holidays without one

Never even crossed my mind. So, yes I wear it around them as I’d wear it around most anyone.

Many here are living in a bubble. Nobody gives a rats ass. A yg/rg DD sure fair enough that will get noticed but SS sports with plastic bezels all look cheap to none-watch people.

Dave Moss : You're such a hero, you're so rich, how come you're coming down here wasting your time with such a bunch of bums?

Blake : [points to his gold Rolex wristwatch] You see this watch? You see this watch I'm wearing?

Dave Moss : Yeah.

Blake : This watch costs more than your car. I made $970,000 in sales commissions last year. How much you make? You see, pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing...

Nobody ever notices what watch I wear, and I am certain that nobody in my family could possibly care less.

Absolutely. I buy them to wear them. I don't care who I'm in front of. I wear it with pride. Shouldn't bother your in-laws, it shows that you're financially secure enough to splurge on a watch. Should also be a sign that you're financially secure to take care of their daughter. As long as you're not going around saying 'here look at my Rolex.' I don't mention anything unless asked about it. I also deal with clients, so if a client sees me wearing my Rolex it should put them at ease that they're dealing with someone who is good at what they do, or at least knows what they're doing.

Yes, you should wear a precious metal Rolex and then ask them to borrow money.

Ha! Sounds like something one of my brother-in-laws would do.

My F-i-L loves his titanium quartz Breitling - can't see the value in mechanical watches which are less accurate! We have a few jokes......

Yes all the time, my FIL wears a metal digital Casio and doesn’t see the value in an expensive watch but doesn’t pass judgement

Just buy their daughter one and put it under the xmas tree, that usually does the trick!

Everyone’s family situation is different. Random strangers on the internet don’t know your family dynamics. It’s up to you to figure it out.
