Just had a disheartening talk with my AD

Regardless of this being common knowledge, it just hurts when the message is directed at you

I reached out to say hello and remind them of my interest in a Rolex sports model or Patek Aquanaut. The response was "the watches are non existent right now and we have long wait lists. With the current shortages please understand it will not be any time soon". Ouch

Carry on

Yeah, its the way everything is right now dude, I'd recommend buying Patek grand comps, they're readily available, more complex and a better bang for your buck.

When the RM bubble bursts it may take stainless sports with it, so diversify as best you can!

Do you see the RM bubble bursting? I mean, the wealthy and folks that can blow the coin on it, want to feel special and thats not likely to change and its not like they make serious amounts of RM. I mean in my estimation there is a far larger bubble with rolex as there are 900k made per year, plenty available in the gray market and far less with RM.

In the history of Rolex has there been a bubble for the brand? No... Stainless sports maybe, but I don't see a catastrophic adjustment on the horizon.

RM do have sure footing presently, but they represent a far riskier proposition for me, I've had 3 RMs and gotten out of them this year, all my other mates and associates have done the same, they are starting to slip, will the bubble burst? Probably not, but the name Franck Muller is ringing in the ears of the uber wealthy, so caution must be applied.

Best

James

Agree. There are some fantastic PP complications that you can buy for 20-30% back of MSRP right now. I’m thinking about cashing some of my Rolex’s to buy a 5320G.

This is exactly what they told me the other day. Granted, they did have 2 BB58 blues and 2 GMTs sitting in the case. They also just put out the NOMOS watches they just started to carry. Looks to me like Rolex is moving up market quickly.

Nope. That would've helped though!

There is always that, right? Been tossing around another Speedmaster vs a really nice Tele.

Go vintage. That’s what I’ve just done and couldn’t be happier, in fact, might be a new pathway for me altogether going forward.

I'm content with my collection. Is just fun to think someday the thrill of an AD calling you may happen... in about 10 or so years.

Being disheartened is fun?

I think I might have spotted a problem.

A whole ‘nother world of pain if you don’t know what your doing with vintage.

I too would love a nice vintage Sub - always loved the open 6 & 9’s on the old date wheels.

However, I just don’t know enough about what should be correct hands/dials/bezels/bracelets etc to know if I’m getting a peach or a lemon….

A very dark art

Sounds like going to the high school disco and all the hot girls/ADs turning you down for the jocks/VVIPs. As old as you get, sometimes you can never leave.

At least that particular AD was being honest about the current situation and not stringing you along with false hope.

I don’t think they have “plenty” of Aquanauts.

This is so true. What is coming in is not being put out but put in the safe and then sold to whom the AD carefully selects who will maximize the long term return to the store. As said, its really not personal, just business in weird times.

There's soooo much more to typical timepieces than Rolex and PP.

Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to expand a bit :)

Yes that is the world of today. In the meantime explorer others brands, I am sure lot of people will be regretting not buying some brands today that are more accessible.
