Incoming Day Date/Olive Dial

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and new to watches in general. As a teenager/young adult was always fascinated by watches, scrolling catalogues/websites etc but did not have the means to purchase.

Last year for my 34th birthday I purchased my first ever Rolex from an AD- Datejust 41 two tone with a black dial. I was completely aware that this was not an "investment" piece so to speak, but I purchased it because I admired the look and feel of it. I wear it daily, super comfortable and love it.

Day Date

12 months on, I was lucky enough to be able to purchase my second watch. I was keen for the Day/Date with the olive dial. My AD encouraged me to purchase jewellery which would help secure it for me at retail, but as a single male I found this difficult as I am not too keen on chains or bracelets for myself. I decided to hit the grey market and despite paying well over retail feel it was the best decision, as the waiting game I found frustrating and did not have hope I would ever be allocated the watch.

Having no previous purchase history I completely understand that popular pieces with any brand can be difficult/impossible to secure . I have enquired and put my name forward for a Royal Oak 37mm at an AP boutique, but the staff member was quite dismissive. I am really liking the look of the Patek Annual Calendar so would love to try one on and perhaps establish a relationship with the Patek AD in my city.

Thanks for all the general help and advice on the forum, I have been lurking/reading for a while - your advice has been much appreciated!

Congratulations on a beautiful watch! Under dim lighting conditions the watch can look like it’s white gold. The dial is very cool and has a camouflage hue too.

Both very nice configurations. I love the TT black dial and the rose/olive combo. Well done!

The best combo for a DD40 imo, but I’m biased. Congratulations!

Was that you who purchased the one that was listed on DavidSW’s site yesterday?

Congrats on your collection, you sure have a very good taste in timepieces.

AP RO and PP would be a very good addition too.

Congratulations from me too. You have 2 very beatiful watches and I send my wishes that you enjoy and wear them in good health. I know exactly what you mean and I think that you made the right choice getting it now. Playing the "jewelry" and "lucky charms" game at the AD is nuts and a gamble besides. I get what I want when I want it, and enjoy it and never look back. Thanks for sharing a great post.

Congratulations!!!! Beautiful piece!!!! I’ve been waiting for 18months for mine.
FYI my AD told me Rolex is allowing customers to swap out dials( for charge) on day/dates.

For the time being.. there’s currently a 3-6 month backorder on the olive dial. Eventually they’ll pull the plug on dial changes for the olive.
