Sellers who don't clean.....
A distraction from the many supply and demand posts...please feel free to add your own pics and examples. Dirty watches from dealers are a pet peeve....

I remember watching a car program about used cars and they swabbed the drivers seat and analysed the results

YES! I completely agree and shocked they can't take the time to do a light cleaning!

I have issues with sellers that don’t clean but also with photographers / videographers that don’t clean the product their are shooting.

It takes no time to give a Rolex Oyster a gentle scrub with a soft brush in warm soapy water, followed by a dry and polish with a soft cloth - mine always come up like new. Even basic hygiene dictates that an item for sale should be presented properly but some people are just not bothered . . . . . .

This. The watch pics with fingerprints all over the bezel and crystal are troubling. Maybe it's just me but I hardly ever grab my watch by the bezel, let along crystal, so those are the areas that don't get fingerprints.

that's nasty.
When I pick 2 watches to wear for the week, they both get cleaned at the end before they go back in the safe. |

I most commonly see polishing compound residue in crevices and in between bracelet links after the dealer had the piece touched up.

Exactly my thought. The telltale black crap. As long as they draw the line at ultrasonic cleaning and don't hit it with the wheel, I'm good.

My watches have never been that dirty but i didn’t realize how far a little dish soap and a soft brush goes. I do it once a week now and it really keeps them immaculate. That watch is gross .

That’s hideous. Hard to believe any reputable dealer would send a watch out the door looking like that.

I take the opposite view and like to see "dirty" watches. Good indicator that they have not been messed around with or "prepared" by the dealer/seller. Underneath all that dirt you can sometimes find a gem.

I've seen sellers try sell watches as BNIB that still have the stickers on them but the stickers have all grime, dust and dirt all under them. LOL
Its obviously been worn with the stickers intact and now they are trying to sell it as BNIB. That is worse I think and a sign a dealer is not trustworthy imho. |
