Stock market "crash" - will we finally be able to enjoy this hobby again in 2022?

I sure hope so, but probably wishful thinking.

I have a collection I'm very happy with, but sometimes it's nice to scratch an itch and go grey on a watch that isn't 2 x retail or so.

Sorry the wishful thinking was not regarding a stock market crash, would not wish that on anyone invested, nor myself. The correction is inevitable in all markets, and the wishful thinking was in regards to the same with prices of watches coming back to earth.
I do hope the hobby at some points turns away from being an investing game all about value, back to being about enjoying watches for what they are.

People view luxury goods differently today. People today more understand the value of money and buy things which hold value. That dynamic will not change no matter when the stock market corrects.

Luxury goods sales and prices typically don’t fall in a market correction. That being said, there will be some panicked flippers trying to get their money out of a watch to cover bad options bets.

I would hope you got more going on in your life financially than a trivial watch collection.

I think it's fanciful for anyone to think that somehow Rolex's are above market dynamics. They are not free from volatility, and if anything - meteoric, sudden rises typically are followed by hard falls.

I wouldn't buy with debt and I wouldn't "invest" needed savings or retirement money in them.

I do not rely on the watch market to leave me better off financially.
I simply hope I can see the day when we can have a market where majority buy a watch for the watch and not for what it will be worth the following month.

Not bitter at all but there is a hell of difference between a market "crash" and a market "correction". Perhaps that needs to be clarified in the original post. "Market Correction" is probably what you meant.
