Trading multiple watches for one grail
Anyone done it ?
Have you regretted it ? I’m thinking to keep my Seiko’s and GShocks, trading a Rolex BLNR, Omega Speedy and two PAM’s for a Patek 5524 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I personally haven't consolidated multiple watches into 1 but I have traded overhyped Rolex watches I owned towards higher horology watches. Like trading a pepsi to Lange 1. So far no regrets. And I think I will be making more moves like this. I still love Rolex but I have come to the conclusion that I don't need to own every single steel references especially at current valuations when I could use this to obtain Lange, Patek and indies I never thought I would own.

Go for it.. 5524 is a wonderful piece. You'll get much wear out of it. Great travel time complication as well, multiple strap options after market.

Keep the Speedy. I'd keep the blnr too.

Don’t think I would do that myself, it’s A lot to get rid of I would prefer to buy the watch first if Possible at all, and then let the pieces go accordingly depending on how you’re feeling. The money will still be there, but yeah you’ll need to be able to front it first of course. Good luck.

I personally think grail watches are a moving target. I’ve never done this sort of trade, and I honestly don’t think it would be for me

id say do it. you can only wear one at a time. i think less is more.
more watches = more winders = more pain to store safely |

A move you will not regret. I've done this in the past and as long as you are trading up, it makes sense.

I’d say go for it and don’t look back. I recent traded in 6 watches worth between 3-7K for a single ALS up/down. I liked each watch I traded in, but the ALS is on a completely different level and gives me more enjoyment. Like fantasy football, I’ll trade 3-4 bench players to get a star in the starting lineup. Good luck!

i think this depends on your wearing habits, whether you really love any of the pieces you would trade, and whether the grail is really a grail.
my general view is that it's always better to have a few nicer pieces than many lesser pieces. we all only wear one watch at a time. that said, there are some pieces that are part of the collection that will stay no matter what: Speedy (perfect sports watch, IMO), Sub (first nice watch decades ago), JLC reverso (gift on birth of first child), Patek (anniversary present), etc. Those pieces transcend their trade-in value, so it's not worth it to consolidate those in any trade for a single nicer piece. |

I traded three Jaegers that I did not wear often for a Patek 5119j. Have not regretted for an instant.
I do agree with the previous poster. I would never sell my Sub, Speedy or Reverso. Probably not my BLNR, either. But everyone has their own thoughts on this. I am in the school that if one is not wearing a watch with value, sell or trade it. |

It's OK sir. I prefer a Ferrari, Rolls and a couple daily drivers in my garage than 15 prius. This opinion is obviously assuming you have a couple nice beaters

I'm also thinking of a similar trade for either a ALS Lange 1 or a Patek 5524. It's a potential 2 for 1 in my case but puts those pieces above in my reach.

Go for it! Am now advising everyone who asks such things to YES, get Pateks, ALS, and of course AP. Stay in your lane and all is fine

I would see if you can keep the blnr as then you would have a great duo with the 5524.
Are you looking at R or G? |

Thanks all - some good feedback and a mix of opinions.
I am specifically looking at more under the radar white gold version as I like the dial contrast more for my old eyes Also agree that the Speedy and GMT are iconic in their own right although the Speedy I could more realistically replace down the line Another think is I do like the variety of choice - loosing so many nice watches, would I be bored with the 5524 - I cannot imagine so but………. Anyway lots to think about but appreciate the input FC Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
