Stolen Rolex

Hi all,

Long time passive member of this group, and really sad to post this as my first post...

I recently was just involved in an online scam where the person took my Rolex and did not end up paying me. He deposited a cheque into my account and then it got bounced and I never heard from him again. This occurred in Hong Kong.

Model # 116655
Serial # 96JW9361

In case you do come across it please contact me or the Hong Kong Police as it has been reported to them already. They have an active case.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry to hear that. Very unusual in HK. Did you get his ID card details? Reported to Rolex at Jardine House?

Yes I did, thank you for the advice. They are fully aware of the situation with my police report.

Do you know typically what happens if Rolex does find it? Do they hold the watch in custody until the rightful owner is declared?

I don't know the exact RSC procedure, but I'm sure they won't return it to the wrongful owner if he/she takes it in for service. I'd be visiting vintage and used shops around TST, Yau Ma Tei and elsewhere, and offering a 10K reward. Let those guys help you get the word out.

sorry to hear that, could you trace him from the bank who issued the check?

Yes that is exactly what the HK police is currently doing. But to be honest, if i was the crook, I wouldn't be using my own cheque book. I would simply steal someone else's cheque book and just deposit it as my own.

Sorry to hear.
Too late now but never turn your watch over until all funds have cleared your account. Good luck moving forward.

Yes this was a complete and utter stupid mistake by my end. I deserve no pity here. My mind was somewhere else and I should've known better than to trust people at face value. Now I have to pay the ultimate price for this mistake.

What’s this going to do? You’d just have an overdrawn account once the check bounced.

Bitcoin would have fixed this. 10 min clearing times.

Very sorry this happened to you. Don't be so hard on yourself. Things happen.

You could have lost that watch in even worse more disturbing ways.

You don't need 'pity' just know we've all made mistakes or done things we wish we had done differently.

Thanks very much for the support. Really appreciate the support given on this forum. Honestly, I have been posting this notice on several platforms such as Facebook, etc. And I honestly get criticism after criticism of how stupid I was. And yes, I admit it was stupid and was careless, but those messages really got me even more depressed.

My intention of selling the watch was for my son's education, and now I have nothing because of my stupidity.

I just hope there are some stolen rolex's that do get recovered, and I hope mine would be one of those success stories...

Exactly. We’ve all made mistakes. So sorry this happened to you. Don’t be too hard on yourself. We live and learn.

I also registered the watch on WatchRegister .com to ensure that I captured the full spectrum of ways I can recover my watch.

Please do let me know if there is anything else I am missing or anything more I can do to make sure I can increase my chances of getting it back... Thank you so much in advance for taking the time in helping me...

This cheque scam been going on for years in HK. The most recent incarnation is you arrange to deal face to face. The buyer says his friend/secretary will do transfer. It pings on your phone. You think you are paid, hand over the goods and go about your day.... but a later on the cheque is withdrawn.

In regards to your username, is it meant to be Tongue in Cheek?

Thanks all for your comments and support. Really appreciate these comments as I live with this situation for the rest of my life.

Does anyone have any success stories on stolen Rolex recoveries? Is it true there is a decent recovery rate (especially if the Rolex has been reported to authorities and RSC)?

Sorry to hear the misfortune.

Yes, I’ve recovered 2 of 4 Rolexes stolen in a home burglary. One here and one via RolexUK.

For me that’s 50% and I have the other two still being sought.

I hope this doesn’t take the rest of your life. Once Rolex RSC notifies the client who reported the theft, they will hold it for you to declare your intentions - and then for the authorities to fulfill their role of recovering stolen property.

I hope for your quick recovery.
