233 vs 275

which one would you prefer?

How much of price difference in these models?

is it worth it to pay more for 275?

I think this topic has been beaten to death.
Anyhow, if I remember correctly, most people here pick 233. At least those that are own or a fan of Panerai.

It is my understanding that there have been issues with the movement of the 275. 233 tough to beat

I tried on 270 and 233 yesterday. The 270 looks more impressive

I felt that 270 beats the 233 in looks. Its a lower production number as well.

Yes I did...
the dial on the 233 is a lot cleaner. the 6 and 12 are larger on the 233 while the addition of the 9 on the 270 makes it too busy..
there is also the am/pm indicator on 270 vs the dot on the 233... this all contributes to the cleaner simpler look of the 233 which is very much inline with the Panerai characteristics...

the thickness too... 270 is thicker while the 233 is a pleasure on the wrist it sits so comfortably..

all in all i feel the 233 is a lot more balanced and in keeping with the Panerai spirit...

Yeah, i've compared both, and without a doubt the 233 is the better one for me, everything just seems to work better, the main points for me were:

Sub-Dial on 233 is a better size and fit for the dial, 270 is a little smaller to accomodate the 9 and of course has the AM/PM and second hand on the sub-dial which clutter it up.

The power reserve, on the 233 it is marked out in day stages (a marker for each day), easy to work out, on the 270 the markers seem to point for 2.5 days use, it's a small thing but to me badly worked out.

On the 233 there is no '9' on the dial, because there isn't enough room, so the '9' is sacrificed to give the dial a better look and feel, on the 270 it's crammed in there and the 6 and 12 are reduced in size because of this, another thing that just makes me think the design could have been better.

That for me puts the 270 behind the 233, add to that the extra thickness on an already chunky watch and i just couldn't buy the 270, opting for the 233 at the time, and both were available for the same price, so that never even came into it.

The one thing about the 270 that is good is it's an automatic, but again it's let down by the back view, the rotor doesn't make the movement look good at all, they seem to have kept the plates on from the P2002/1 and if a rotor is added i think they should remove these and allow the full movement to be shown.

Yes I have... 233 is nicer... 270 IMO is too cluttered... Like squeezing a lot of things into the dial...

I was comparing to 275 not 270. 275 is same 8 days but chrono.

Well, up close on the photos, I agree, the dial is less cluttered.
But on the wrist I felt 270 had better presence.

David7979: sorry I kinda hijacked the thread

I also did compare 233 and 270 side by side, and no doubt, 233 is winner in my book. 233 has bigger 12 and 6 while 270 is smaller with 9 squeezed in, is bit wee unbalanced for lack of corresponding 3 marker. (312 looks fine to me although). 270 is bit thicker than 233.

Now for 275, I don't think it's comparable to 233 because of feature being chrono function and matte hands (?). If I had spare change I would get 311 (Ti) or 317 (Ceramic) !

I would argue it is comparable but once I heard of the potential movement problems I passed. 233 to 270 has been beat and beat and beat. I own both use the search key to find the multiple threads if interested.

Brian, what kind of issues of that movement in 275 you've heard?

There was a problem with the chrono function and several people returned their watches. I was looking to buy the gold with blue face but purchased 289 instead. New technology and new movements are great but one must be suspicious. I am a fan of the 8 day movement and even have a 268 but am staying away from 275. The 317 would be a different story just because.

Yeah, I am not going to be first adopter thing. Let others be beta testers! 317 is a helluva of a watch with helluva price to match!

312: who knows whether it will keep value in this economy?

My current philosophy about luxury watches: buy what you really like, preferably with a nice discount if you worry about resale.
Dont buy what someone else likes.

I personally have no problems choosing between the 312 or 233. 233 worth every penny. 312 may be a good watch but its no 233.

233. There's no competition. an 8-day movement is a wonderful thing. 3-day is ho hum.
