GS "White Birch" Hi-Beat running VERY fast..
So I just got a new White Birch SLGH005 .. it came from a non-AD so I can't take it into my local AD (or can I??)...
in ether case, it seems to be running about 10-15 seconds a day fast, maybe more.. is that an easy adjustment to do or do I need to send it into GS for regulation? Thanks all |

Take it in to an AD or Boutique and they will handle it for you. One thing I have found with Seiko/Grand Seiko is the service is impeccable. Be prepared for them to send it off but it will come back right.

yes! 12-15 fast per day! I read on a lot of forums that others experienced this as well so they sent it back to Japan - from what I've read - they had a mild improvement but only managed to get it down to 10secondsish (from those who have posted with complaints). I'm not sure I'm ready to send it back until the improvements get closer to 3-5seconds! Too pretty!

Same here! Love it too much to part! Maybe in a year after the black is released they will clear up the issues. Then will send it off :) Too bad is right but confident they will clear it up!

Same experience here. +15 seconds per day. Watch went back to Japan as the local dealership could not play with the new movement.
Watch came back after around 10 weeks. Very glad to get it back and they had polished the case and strap to like new again. Time keeping is now +5 seconds per day. A lot better but still not 100% happy with that. I get that the advertised time is +8 seconds per day, but I have other watches that keep the time better. Small matters I guess, I love the WB as a day-to-day wearer, it's a great sub-$10k option. WB.jpg |

Hopefully no one starts an official timekeeping problem thread on the subject

Someone did a poll on 9SA5’s accuracy at a Grand Seiko subforum on another WIS website. The majority who polled had inaccuracy issue with the movement. Not an actual timekeeping problem thread though haha.

Grand Seiko’s pure mechanicals are hit or miss. I’ve had some good ones and some not so good. There does seem to be an issue with the new hi beat. Once they get it figured out it should be a great movement. Spring drive is of course always crazy accurate. :)

I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's magnetized? Maybe this movement is easily prone to being magnetized... because it always seems to be running fast.. not slow.

In my experience, magnetized runs minutes per day fast. Fifteen seconds per day seems to be an adjustment problem.

Unfortunately mechanical Seiko and grand Seiko I haven't had great luck with timekeeping, and judging from more active Seiko forums not uncommon....

Is this a common problem with this ref? Mine is running fast too but not as bad and as I rotate everyday, accuracy is not that critical for me unless its way off. Curious what's the feedback from other owners.

At least it runs fast consistently, which makes adjusting it to accurate time very easy

What is the benefit of the hi beat if the accuracy is worse? Just curious how the function works

I have the Grand Seiko SBGH255 hi-beat which is currently in Japan being regulated as it was running several seconds slow per day, particularly frustrating as my Seiko MM300 SLA023 is +2 seconds per day.
When you consider the SBGH255 retails at considerably more than a METAS Omega Planet Ocean or a Rolex Submariner it’s disappointing that the accuracy is so poor. |

If you'd sent it for servicing when you started this thread, you might have had it back by now....just saying...

This is disappointing, given so many milestones in Seiko's history were for beating the world at mechanical accuracy.
I am more fascinated by Spring Drive, so hopefully I will not be affected. |

I recently bought a spring drive new from an AD that failed after 1 day. Another after a few weeks. So you never know about those either. Both were replaced by the AD.

Wow!, that interesting Michelle. I haven't heard of a spring drive failure. Did they share with you what had happened?

The one that stopped after a day was the cherry blossom, it simply stopped. The one after a few weeks was a snowflake. The seconds hand was going around extremely fast, like every 2 seconds. It was bizarre to see. |
