Intentionally not wearing your Rolex
There have been times where I have made a point not to wear a Rolex. For instance, if I find myself in a more "rustic" part of town. Sometimes I will not wear it if I have a repairman coming to the house. I'm just paranoid that if he sees me with an expensive watch on I'll get charged more. I'm sure some of this is silly but what goes through your minds.

I wear my Sub whenever I want to.
I have owned it for 3 years and have yet to have anyone comment on it or look at it unless they know watches or are family.

If I'm working on a project and the likelyhood of scratching my watch is high I'll wear a beater and save my Oysters for the more important times in life.

I know what you mean, I have just returned from a trip to Paris with my wife and ended up lost in a not so nice area that most cities have and felt very uneasy, I took off my rolex and put it in my pocket.

What's the point owning a Watch
any brand at all, if you're not gonna going to wear it.

I just wear my Rolex. I don't care. Typically people don't really notice it and so I don't think twice about it.

I have a LOT of watches, most of which are not expensive or mid-range. I wear whatever is appropriate for the situation.
I think it is wise not to invite crime by removing valuables from sight if in a seedy circumstance. That includes watches, rings, etc. |

This is a strange observation and sadly I agree with you.
Why do we often assume people are dishonest, whether a tradesman or a person living in a seedy part of town? You may equally suspect the tradesman sees the Rolex and assumes you have taste, high expectations and he may well go the extra yard to give you a good job! There, the can of worms is now official open! |

I wear my watches any time I want to. I had a friend who was afraid to wear his Rolex and I could never understand why you would buy a nice watch and keep it hidden. Too be honest most people wouldn't know a Breitling from a Timex or a Rolex from a Casio. so wear your Rolex and enjoy it.

I do remove mine sometimes in the right neighborhood. I live in a pretty sceatchy place were owning a twenty seven thousand dollar watch doesnt go over well. "Player haters." there have been guys in my business neighborhood that have been killed for their watches. My Dad wore one for thirty years without an issue though. I am in the industrial warehouse rental business, possible tenants dont always like to see you wearing what they make in a year on your wrist. So its might be a good idea to remove it sometimes..

I live in South Texas... the masses down here are so stupid they wouldn't know a good watch if I told em. My watches only get noticed in New Orleans and Watch stores.. lol
I wont wear them in New Orleans, or downtown Houston. Close to the border I will, everyone assumes its fake like 99% of the sunglasses, purses and watches in the area. When I'm negotiating deals depending on who I'm working with may dictate what watch I wear, too.. If I'm working a contract with a HS principal, I wouldn't wanna wear a watch that costs as much as his gross salary per year, and when I'm working with a Vendor for a $1M project he likes to see potential investors sporting a valuable watch. It sits well with them. So depends on the situation you are going into. When I'm driving my CLS all bets are off, its tough to make like you have a fake Rolex when you pull up in a $85,000 car.

I just wear mine and don't worry about it, that's what I bought them for. I have been all over the place twice over the years and never had a problem
Last weekend I took a train to meet a couple of guys from another forum, more than a few drinks later I fell asleep on the train home and missed my connection station, got tossed out in Middlesbrough and had to get the bus home on which I fell asleep again, got off the bus picked up Big M and wandered round a few bars till about 2am, No problem just another day in the life of Bond and all with my TT GMT C. |
