When did the Submariner move to 904L?

Hello,

New on this board, and too Rolex. I'm looking for a Submariner 14060m. I prefer the two line pre-COSC models from 2000 - 2006. But I also want to get the most recent tech I can as I plan on keeping and using it until it's truly vintage (or outlasts me). So I'm looking to get a model that uses the 904L steel. According to my searches it says that Rolex converted their steel watches to 904L in 2003. I'm wondering if they converted the Submariner earlier than that or should I be confining my search to just 2004-2006 (serial F or D)?

Thanks

When did Rolex switch the Submariner to 904L?

Hello,

New to this forum and to Rolex.

I'm looking for a two line 14060m 2000-2006. I'd also like to get one in the 904L steel. All my research says that Rolex converted all their steel watches in 2003. I'm wondering if Rolex converted the Submariner earlier or if I should confine my search to the 2004-2006 F & D serial watches? I can find no definitive answers from the Internet or any forums on the conversion to 904L for the Sub.

Thanks.

First Sub made with 904L was the 168000 around 1987. That was about all that distinguished it from its predecessor the 16800.

For the non-date subs did 904L start with the 14060 in 1990 then? I'm pretty sure all 5513s were 316.

Thanks for answering so quickly. This gives me a much greater range to look for.
