Tudor vs Rolex a birthday gift

Ok guys here goes...

Walked in to an known jewelry store, they have some preowned watches, looking to get the girlfriend a nice birthday gift. Looking at jewelry, later on some preowned ladies Rolexes, nothing catches her eyes. They have mens preowned, lots of other brands, Rolexes never last. They have a Tudor price date, gold dial, super nice, polished, its a 1997 Submariner. It's been there over 4 years. I know this because i always frequent this place online and visits. She loves it, it sang to her. We talk and we leave.

Days later we go to an AD, they have a a few ladies Rolexes, the usual ones, she tries them on, she says nice and nice again, they, SA walks away and my gf says i like the Tudor more, she says, your always saying jewelry and watches have to sing or wiggle at you...well...the tudor sings to me. But you knwo more about watches than me so i will let you decide, we leave the place. A week later i walk in the AD, the SA sees me and tells me hey, we got a few new pieces, he saud i think this one your lady is gonna like! its a ladies datejust mother of pearl, two-tone jubilee 26mm. I tell them i have to bring her in, i leave. ohh and it look fantastic. I get to her place and show her a picture.
She tells me she still like the Tudor more!!!!!

Its 25 years old.....

Sorry about the long text...
i know the story about Tudors, i have been on this site for some time now...and thank you guys for all the knowledge you have given me and i am still learning!

im still shaking my head...she love that Tudor, she is turning down Rolex watches!!

Ohh....and that dang Tudor looks great on her wrist too....i asked her, does that Tudor make you smile like my Sub? She said yes!!!!

Don't fight this. Be thankful that you even have a gal who enjoys mechanical watches! Waaaaaay too many just wear an Apple these days.

She's right. The Tudor sub is a great watch. A couple of things to cross check with her, 1 make sure she understands that it has a ETA movement and the accuracy is not as good as a modern Rolex, mine is 5 second slower per day. And the second issue, which maybe a deal breaker, is bracelet sizing. If it's the 39mm, and her wrist is less than 6.25" it may not be able to size below a certain diameter. And with a 25 year old watch, the condition is going to matter a lot. There's no lume in these watches because the radioactive paint has all by faded away. BUT the good news is it sounds like you can bargain pretty hard for that watch. I purchased mine, blue dial, for $9500, it had a service bezel, and NOS bracelet, that was before the market crashed. Without knowing anything I'm going to guess you can get it around $5k, and if condition is not perfect, u can try to push it down to $3.5k. If you have a photo of the watch that would really help.

It’s her wrist and her (potential watch) … her opinion is all that matters

No it doesn't. Do you know what reference it is? Looks kinda bad tbh. But if she loves it she loves it, what can you do. The heart wants what the heart wants. Just look at the mirror and be glad she has a particular taste =p

Smart lady. I would pass on anything smaller than 34mm, if I had a small wrist. Have you ever tried to check the time, at a glance, on a sub-34mm watch… not easy with my eyes. Plus, larger size (within reason) is in fashion… besides my mom, I never see anyone wearing those tiny ladies Rolex pieces.

I say go with what she wants. That Tudor is gorgeous IMO. So I’d be elated if mine wanted that as a birthday gift.

Go for the Tudor! My wife picked a plain midsize Oyster Perpetual over everything else in the store, including a used Tudor minisub which I really wanted to buy her, it was awesome and I thought it would be really fun to have with my 2 divers but no dice there. She still likes the OP better that anything else she's seen in stores.

I would put watch by watch, educate her on the brands, and let her pick what she likes.

I’m confused. She told you what she wants. Heck, she told you it sings to her. What are you waiting for?

Hey just be glad. My wife had her birthday recently. I ask her what she wants. She said I want your GMT Batman. I said, no, but good try.
