Greg, could you share a little about what kind of maintenance a bunny requires? Do you have to keep them caged up, or can they roam the house and use a litterbox? Do they like to be handled? Do they chew up your furniture? I've been considering some kind of little pet for the girls, but I'm not sure a bunny would be the best choice. Then again, they want a kitten and I know what I'd be in for with that as we've had a lot of cats as pets in my lifetime.

Hmmm.... let me ask it this way: which is more work? A kitten or a bunny?

Bunny's are not good pets for small children IMHO....If you pick them up wrong you can break there little backs and most bunnies dont like to be picked up much.
You have to REALLY Really like bunnies to have them and they take lots of work
and yes....you would have to "bunny proof" the house...(elec cords etc.)
Our bunnies roam the house in the day (kitchen) and use a litterbox box but we put them in their cages at night.
They need toys and stuff to play with at night in their cages.
A kitten is lot less trouble and easier with small kids IMHO....
The bunny above was a homess bunny too....they take lots of time to get them to trust you.
When your girls are over 10 or so then Bunnies make more sense....but it would be fun playing with a real "Peter Rabbit"
IMHO Rabbits are fascinating complex little creatures that I never get tired of.

Well, if you answered all my questions correctly, I could use a pet like that! And I'd add this one: do you pick up your stuff?

That's a very cute bunny.
When my wife and I were dating I had a house bunny. He had the run of the apartment and used the litter box. He chewed the bindings off my books and pulled on the rug. I probably should have had him in a cage when I was asleep or at work. He got along well with my cat and would have been a better pet if I'd have been home more.

We found our rabbit in the front garden. He was just a baby. The kids put posters up all over the place but nobody claimed him. We have had him for about 3 years and he is one of the family. Plays outside with piggy and Harris (West Highland Terrier) all day and sleeps inside at night.

The little B***** has been known to dig and when I am in the Family room on the computer he will continually smack my slipper until he gets some corn flakes.

That's really cute.
One other nice thing about rabbits... They don't bark.

Good info if you want to "hop" into the world of bunnies
Our whole life revolves around them now.....but we take in homeless ones
that demands attention

Cats are good for women. If you're married, you're already used to being ignored.

Awesome! Likewise, you also spend your evenings watching them sleep on the couch.
