AP Trade Dilemama

With no AP store close to me, does it make sense to trade out of two plus cash or three steel Rolex’s (Pepsi, blue sky and Panda) for an Royal Oak or a Royal Oak Chrono? Everything bought at retail. Those prices seem to be coming back down to reality. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t make that trade.

I would get rid of 2, dump the Sky, keep either the Pepsi or Daytona + add the AP

this.

I'd keep the Pepsi, since Rolex makes the best GMT watch fullstop, and sell the Sky (overrated) and Daytona (overhyped) and add a RO.

A GMT Master II + RO would be a perfect two watch collection. Add a high-end dress watch, like a Calatrava, and you'd be done at three watches for life.

Well I’m fortunate enough to have a few Rolexes . . . There’s 3 I’d never sell

That said I’d struggle if this was an option . . . .

Find another way :-)

I think it really depends on your preferences and wearing habits. To state the obvious, Rolexes are great for everyday wear. You’ve got a nice collection with the ability to switch things up when you want to wear something different. But I could definitely see a situation where you trade or sell 1-2 of your Rolexes for an AP. The finishing and the bracelets are works of art. The watch will get scratched way more than a Rolex so if that would bother you then maybe don’t make the move. But I feel like I’ll always have an AP in my collection because there’s nothing quite like a Royal Oak or ROC.

All amazing Rolex pieces you got there. Tough decision… personally I would keep all of them and try to buy AP at retail if you can.

Build a relationship with the closest AP Boutique to you. Explain your current collection and it’s a natural transition that your next watch needs to be an Royal Oak etc.

My first answer is no, but that can change depending on what AP you are looking to acquire.

Sounds like getting hosed on trade in. Might as well just get RO new from AP. Looks like that’s getting easier at the going rate rather than taking apart the current collection.

I would recommend just waiting to get a RO for retail. Can probably get a 37 or 41 with no history within 12-18 months (non blue). If you don’t want to wait and/or don’t have the cash, sell all 3 of your watches and get a roo within a few months, and get a ro within 12 months. Even if you are in the bay, SCP or BH is not that far away

Big fan of RO/ROC , not desperate for Pepsi/SkyD/Panda, but would never make that trade for a simple steel AP. Maybe b/c I’m not a one watch guy, but also b/c this seems just driven by FOMO.

I’d wait how the market shakes out and try to get the AP at retail. The boutiques, with a bit of effort will work with non-locals with a proper introduction (I.e., not a phone call, asking for a RO).

I'm old and, as a consequence, not up on the latest slang. Help me, here; what's a Dilemama? Is that something that's bigger than a regular dilemma? Like a Mama of a Dilemma?
I live close to California but not close enough to be hip, apparently.

I think it's just a typo The OP meant dilemma.

I wouldn’t trade all just for one watch! Definitely will find myself missing the Rolexes… the 2 for 1 might be better for versatility in your collection

Depending on the AP, I would not make the trade. You have a very nice collection currently. Sit back and see what the market does.

I love both Rolex and AP RO/ROC.

I would not trade 3 great Rolex for 1 Stainless steel AP ROC.

Keep what you have and wait for ROC at AP Boutique.

Secondary market for ROC is still way overprice but not too long it will comes down at a more reasonable price. I would love to have 41mm ROC in RG with full bracelet.
