Sub41 or ... ?

Dear friends! I am going to buy Rolex as an everyday companion with suits. Thinking about Sub41...blue TT or black SS. What do You think? Are they comfortable? Or better to buy OP41 or Exp36? Thanks!

With a suit, nothing beats a 36mm Datejust..

Agreed, but a 41mm DJ comes close

OP, welcome to the forum. While a Sub would arguably work with a suit, a DJ 36 or 41 (depending on build and preference) is far more suitable (pun intended) imho.

Welcome to the forum.

Some will say you can wear a Submariner with a suit and some won’t. I think it works

You’re right!! Probably the same people who ask what watch to wear with…?
I know there was another thread about this but I saw one being worn with a tux … and I was suprised how well it worked

The sub works perfectly well when in suit and shines when you’re not in suit.
If you’re looking for one watch or if this is your first Rolex the. I would grab a diver first.
This is what I did anyways :-)

The Submariner all the way. Dress it up, dress it down and everywhere in between. Could be a great one watch collection or the base of a much larger collection.

X2.

The only time I had someone comment on my watch when I was wearing business or non-casual attire, I was in a tux at a charity event.

Plenty of people wear Subs with suits these days. It's all personal preference of course, but I have a 124060 (No Date SS Sub) on order. Two tone has never been my thing.

I bought DJ41 black smooth oyster to wear with suits and it never got wrist time. Subs, GMT, Daytona prevailed. DJ is gone, gone, gone.

I personally prefer the TT blue, dressier than the black Sub, to me at least.

You’re kidding me. I have custom Munro shirts with woven cuffs that aren’t that nice. Good job!

I own both, and wear both with suits all the time.

I do not think the argument should be, can you wear a sports watch with a suit … yes, in my opinion … but rather, WHERE should you wear a sports watch with a suit ?

That is what is missed, I think.

With a suit, yes … to some events, no.

E.g., Etiquette of fashion states that we would not wear a sports watch to a Black Tie event … that’s why they sell / we own a Dress Watch.

A solid yellow gold Submariner, with a blue dial, with a suit, to a funeral … no.

That same watch, with a suit, to dinner with friends … absolutely.

The suit is not the issue … the event is the issue.

I would say this, you will be more limited with the TT Blue Dial, then you would be with the Black Submariner.

I like my TT Blue Dial Submariner more than I like my Black Submariner (love them both by the way) …

but I wear my Black Submariner more than I wear my TT Blue Dial Submariner.

I personally would do a black ss. I’m waiting on dj41 black smooth bezel on oyster. Buy what you like and enjoy it.

They’re comfortable but despite the internet’s fixation on Submariners, Oyster Perpetuals (including Explorer) are better all-around watches.

I have a question, though. You indicate OP41– why not consider it in 36mm (or the Datejust in 36mm)? Both have far better proportions than their 41mm counterparts.

If the primary wear would be with a suit, get a Datejust or OP. You can wear a sub with a suit (I wouldn't). You can also wear high top basketball sneakers and a trucker hat with a suit, but it simply isn't the best choice.

Some good advice already given…a DJ36 in the configuration of your choice is absolutely perfect for the frequent suit wearer.

If you have a wrist over 7.25” though I’d recommend you try the DJ41 too..

Sub41 or ... ?

While the black sub is the top watch of any kind for me, if you were wearing it with a suit 75% of the time or more I would go DJ with blue dial. Jubilee and fluted for dressy or oyster
