Question as Submariner needs servicing in NYC

My nephew has a 10 year old Submariner. All of a sudden it won't wind automatically or manually. Is there a reputable service center besides Rolex in the NYC area? He knows it is outside the warranty period so he is looking for someone a little more reasonable than Rolex if possible

Rolex are not complicated and most competent watchmakers can do the job. The latest CW-21 or comparable training and a Rolex parts account are good to look for.

Unfortunately, all watchmakers know what Rolex charges and they like to price their work accordingly.

Shopping price alone can lead to an unhappy customer. Some also make a quote "plus parts", which can add up or they simply reuse the old worn parts. At Rolex the price includes all standard movement parts and waterproofing seals and gaskets.

Know what you are getting before handing over the watch.

If I may, I'd have Rolex service it. Take it directly to them. When Rolex services it it will be done correctly, plus you get a two-year warranty. Case polishing is a deep subject of choice, and varying quality. Let the factory service do it imho.
