Why not Glidelock on every model?
I have had my GMT for a couple days, honestly, I like it much more then I thought I ever would. I adored my 126610 sub, but my 126710 just seems to have a bit… More. I will do a comparison after wearing this one for a month, the pros and cons of the Sub and the GMT but I can tell you right off the bat one thing I REALLY miss is the Glidelock function of the Sub.
Maybe I am weird (well, I AM, but that’s a story for another thread) but I was subconsciously adjusting my Glidelock. I guess I have sensitive wrists… Anyway, it is a big adjustment trying to get used to the +- 5 MM only adjustment on my GMT clasp. I can just not seem to get it right I have ordered a half-link from Rolex, hopefully that will give me the Goldi-lox fit, but there is just nothing compared to the very convenient 2mm adjustments of the Glidelock on the Sub. So, my question is… Why can’t Rolex include this feature on all models? Or do I just have weird wrists that expand and contract more then normal? |

With 3 pin locations on the clasp, getting a better fit should be possible.

To make the sub line more exclusive

Agreed, they have a mini glidelock already on the oyster flex yacht master and sky dwellers. No reason they can’t put a small glidelock on every sport model.

I have a Sub with Glidelock and also other models with Easylink.
My wrists expand and contract similar to yours, and feel the same about the Glidelock. In fact I often wear the Sub instead of another piece I might prefer on the day for that reason. I like the Easylink, but some days it doesn’t achieve the right fit. Maybe the shortened Glidelock clasp would be a good compromise on models such as GMT’s . |

Have you tried your adjustments in conjunction with the easy link Paul?

I really like the 2mm increments as well. I “glide” between three stops almost daily.

Why not Glidelock on every model?
From the odd but true files...
Except on the very first day I got my Submariner and my DJ41, I have never ever adjusted glidelock or easylink. I just never messed around with them after day one. However, both are great because I definitely got a more precise fit for both watches. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Why not Glidelock on every model?

No. Not at all. They’re a perfect fit. Tight but not too tight. Sometimes they’re a little looser and sometimes maybe little tighter, but I never felt a need to adjust them. Again, I think glidelock and easylink are great options because on day 1, I was able to get a more precise fit. But I just never messed around with them again. Never felt the need. Same thing applies to my Seamaster. I fooled around with it on the first day of ownership, but haven’t touched it since then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I wish my belt had a glidelock as well. That said, it's easier to replace a belt than a bracelet. I 100% agree -- I've found myself taking out a link and putting one back in then reducing the half link on my YM

And there's no chance to buy with cold hard cash from at a dealer even if that was your wish as Rolex have "rules"

But you can buy the links and other clasps easily enough from the sales section of TRF - there are several "trusted sellers" there who will be able to get you what you want.

Posted in the “Wanted to buy” section. From what I know (and someone feel free to correct me) the 116610 clasp WILL fit my 126710 GMT. THAT, would make for an awesome fit bracelet!

The Clasp on the 116610 is satin finished.... you would have to polish it to look right. Plus I have not seen the clasp sold individually either; I have always seen the glidelock clasp attached to the 97200 bracelet (that comes on the 116610 sub). I purchased a brand new 97200 bracelet (it comes with the glidelock clasp) from a grey dealer and never looked back.

Like one poster said, I played around with the glidelock on day 1 maybe day 2 too. After the honeymoon was over I « never « touched it again. I am far too lazy, my wrists expand and contract constantly and frankly I just don’t pay any attention to it at all. Moments the watch is a bit loose then 10 mins later its snug, this cycle happens repeatedly throughout a given day. I am just not dedicated enough to be messing around with the glidelock 20 times a day. It’s a useless addition for someone like me and the tradeoff of these enormous modern slab sided Rolex clasps, seemingly so large to house all the over engineered mechanism isn’t worth it.

the glidelock on my DSSD can be adjusted without taking off the watch, i find my self adjusting it several times a day, to get the best fit at all times... making this DSSD the most comfortable watch ive ever worn,.. they definitely should put it on their other watches, as far as i know its exclusive for the DSSD at the moment

I do tend to agree.
They could quite easily incorporate glidelock style clasps into most sizes of watches. I suppose it is to differentiate between the models. |

GMTs aren’t a “sports” watch. They are for pilots, travelers and people who do business across different time zones. No one is wearing a GMT over the sleeve of a suit ( I hope!). That said, I agree with the OP that a glidelock is a superior feature and I would definitely appreciate some approximation of it on every watch |

I disagree!
Never use the glidelock, only once or twice a year when im on vacation in a humid/hot country. That's why I dont care my recently bought Grand Seiko doesnt have it, it wears like a charm. And a jubilee doesnt suit a glidelock, come one the older lock was already better than what they have now. |

I'm with the OP.
My wrist/hand/finger size changes MASSIVELY depending how hot I am - and I don't like the watch strangling my wrist. I would adjust my Seadweller at least once a day using glidelock to get a perfect fit. With the GMT I just picked up - I had it sized so it's quite loose (not too loose though) and has enough 'give' for day to day - then if i get really hot I just pop out the extra link. |
