Seeking advice: Serti 16613 - real or fake dial?

Hello all - this is my first post here at TRF, so please be kind.

I am also seeking my first Rolex, having become interested in the brand at the worst time - when things seemed to be at the peak.

I have been trawling various greys since, and a Serti Sub 16613 caught my eye. Upon comparing its dial to other similar watches, I am unsure if the watch/dial is real or fake. The grey seems reputable, with a retail store, and mentions the watch comes with box and papers.

Could the resident experts here at TRF please help advise? Much appreciated!

Real papers/card should indicate "serti" for the dial. Have you seen them? Nice taste!

Hard to say- I’d ask for more “real life” photos. This one seems like it’s been taken in a studio and hard to tell if it’s been photoshopped. Not saying it is but the photo doesn’t appear to be “ live” if you know what I mean. Some parts seem washed out and grainy.

I’ve always liked serti dials and missed out on a deal for one before the rise in prices a few years ago - good luck!

Thank you. I think the lighting in general is quite washed out, but there is one photo that made it seem OK - the dial seems radiant enough here:

If that is a pix of the actual watch it looks ok.

I would also like to see pix ot the watch bracelet, caseback etc.

That single pix does look like it came out of a catalogue?

Welcome to TRF.

Yes if authentic from factory the papers will likely say Serti as mentioned.
Seems to represent a post tritium lume Swiss Made or perhaps a service replacement Serti dial.
Authentic Serti dials are very radiant and it’s a great look when a real Rolex dial.
But due to so many of them being faked and all over the place, plus the mediocre dial radiance here, I struggle to trust this one unless you can show original qualifying papers or show the back side of the dial.
Just my 2 cents.

I think that papers in Asia did not indicate a Serti dial, simply 16613. There was a thread on this subject a couple of years ago.

The dial looks authentic to me, but I have to say that I wouldn't buy it based on one picture, if pictures are all you have to go by.

Looks legit to me, but why only a single picture? Does it come with box/papers? Unless this is a dealer I trust, I would never buy without looking at the watch with my own eyes and handling it with my hands. Have you pulled the bracelet to look at the reference and serial numbers? What is the bracelet date code, how does that compare to the serial number date? What models are the end links? Who is the dealer and reputation? Have you or people you trust done business with them in the past? How much are they asking for the package?

Thanks, SS Oyster. The other photos are equally washed out, except the one in my previous post. All very valid questions from you - I will check the ref and serial when I go to see the watch in-person. The photo of the papers, showing "garantie" did have 16613 on the top right, with the serial on the top left pixelated out. Some of the rest I have no clue about, but they seem genuine with a couple of proper stores in different cities. Asking for £15K ish which would be $18.5 ish ...

A used watch is not a "Grey" watch, nor is the Dealer.

The pictured watch looks fine and if it is a reputable shop, as you state, it may be the watch for you.

I will echo what has already been said..1.Check the papers 2.Get more pics 3. Buy the seller.

With that said, this has always been one of my favorite dials! Stunning!

You mentioned that watch comes with papers. if it was bought from the US Rolex AD it will list the dial as "Serti" there. Rolex watches bought outside of the US don't have their dials types or colors listed on the papers or cards. You need to reach out to seller and ask him that

Thanks scorpgodz. I suppose it is likely to be have been bought within the UK, so may not have "Serti" listed. Will keep an eye out for it.

That is stunning! And reassuringly, the fonts look similar to those in my photo

Many thanks, all! The store is a 4-hour round trip away, so I have not looked at the papers or at the watch "live" yet. Wanted to do some due diligence first.

This one is advertised as a 2007 model. The rehaut does not have the "ROLEX" engraving. The other photos of the case-back and the bracelet looked OK to me, but when I compared the dial to some other Sub dials, the font on the "Submariner" looked too sans serif, and the zeros in "1000 ft = 300 m" too rounded.

Having said that, the fonts in the photo above from BNA/Lion do look similar, so who knows.

Buy the seller, not the watch. Even if it looks good in pics there’s no guarantee that that’s the product you’ll get. Make sure they have a return policy in case it’s not as advertised.

I had a 2006 (if remember the year correctly). Same model, some pics for comparison. I got many compliments when I had it. Good luck!

Seems to be genuine, as said by others by the seller first!

$18k sounds like too much , here one for sale on the forum by a reputable seller (no Rolex paperwork though, but for about $1000 you can have it serviced by RSC and get a 2 year warranty card):

Just an observation the pip at 12 on the bezel goes over the triangle marker on all the sertis I have seen whereas most Subs the pip hugs the edge of the marker.

ps. I remember the days there was no love at all for the Serti, looks beautiful.
