Steel Code11.59
Visiting the boutique for resizing the bracelet on my AP this weekend. On my last visit, my SA had indicated that AP intends to develop their complications on the Code11.59 platform instead of the RO, to promote even further the model line. From the recent PR, they revealed 2 in my mind interesting 11.59 pieces in steel. I would like to get your opinions on these 2, esp from those who have the 11.59. I do not subscribe to using this to buy my way into the more exclusive models like ceramic etc. so have to appreciate them on the wrist. Thanks much

My opinion is that these are a montblanc watch at 10x the price. AP dealers are using these bland ($25,000 ) watches as stepping stones to Royal Oaks when I'd rather wear a $250 Tissot PRX over one of these without question

Lol I can assure you as a code owner that the Code and Montblanc watches have absolutely nothing in common. The aesthetic may not be for everyone but the quality is worlds apart. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Also a Code owner here and completely agree. I really like the new steel Codes. I like the updated hours markers, hands and dial treatment.

that's because you are looking at the watch from a flat 2D perspective. The case construction looks NOTHING like any other watch out there. Though i have said before than $25k is a bit too much imo.

Agree it's pricey but which MB watch does it resemble?

I think the Code watches look much better when they have complications. As it stands, the base time/date versions have way too much unused dial real estate and give off a bit of a Kohl's sales section vibe.

I’m a big fan of the green one (it seems to be very much like green ROs in terms of play with light) but as an owner of a time only one in their two toned golds, I would highly suggest you try it on since it can be a bit dinner platey without complications. My wrist is on the smaller side fyi
That said, the recent updates are big changes to how it visually looks (for the better) and the guilloche dial will be pretty cool to see when it interacts with similar to RO patisserie. Regarding pricing - only you can judge whether it’s worth it but the finishing on a code case is far more complex than even an entire RO with various angles and skeletonised lugs |

I have 2 ROs and an offshore, and no Codes. I’d own one of the steel codes in a heartbeat.

I will confess that’s the only way I know how to type it 80% of the time. Otherwise it becomes tapestry the remaining 20%.
To OP, I think the build quality in hand is way way better than MB, just the crown itself for example. But no doubt the price is dear compared to stellar value brands like Tissot or even Hamilton. |

Is it just me or would these look pretty good on a steel bracelet?

Many moons ago, someone posted a picture of a CODE on a Milanese bracelet. Looked awesome. White gold and steel is not a combination making for long-term happiness, but the new steel models would be great candidates for some experimentation.

The fashion watch, Montblanc, whatever comparisons are so lazy and boring.
OP, go see the watches, if they sing to you at that price, then put your name on the list...given how unpopular they are, you should have it in no time at all. |

I think they are nice and should sell easily. Nice under the radar daily.

By way of an update regarding the availability of the steel Code - a gentleman on Talking Time With Tim Mosso Facebook group posted that he visited AP House in NYC and was told that he didn't really have a chance for the steel/ceramic Code this year.
I'm not sure of his buying history but never the less, people that were expecting these to be readily available will be quite surprised I think. As for the Montblanc and fashion watch remarks I honestly think these are quite ridiculous. The case construction and finishing alone are in another universe and I for one think these are appropriately priced |

Those Codes will be very popular.
No wonder AP is introducing it with green and blue dials, and also the taupe dial from the ROO which is also one of the popular models. |

I don't think it's that appropriately priced, but as with any luxury brand PP, AP, FPJ etc, there is always a premium with regards to their product line-up. The good thing is that AP did took the feedback it got from the customer base and improved upon the dials which now make the CODE line an attractive option on its own.
The bad news is that now steel CODEs will be difficult to buy and what can customers do to get a wristwatch they want without going through the usual difficulties or will it be "buy a PM code and we will allocate you a steel code before you get a RO" kind of "journey" |

Is this really the case? Have people asked about the steel Code as a first AP and denied being on the waitlist? Sure quota for this year may be filled and it may not come this year.

I was told by NYC AP house that the ones they will get will go to existing Code owners. They also said I wouldnt get one in 2023. I have no AP buying history.

Steel Code11.59
I think these look awesome. I’ve been a fan of the Code since it’s release and hope to own one of these steel ones within the next year or two. I agree the comparisons to fashion brands, Montblanc, etc. are ridiculous and may be made if only looking at a picture of the Code online. In person there are so many details such as the intricate lugs, very intricate case, and the double curved sapphire crystal. On these new ones you’ve also got new textured dials with guilloche or whatever they’re calling this.
I say go see them in person before making any judgement. I was blown away when I did. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I can’t speak to the quality of Montblanc watches but they actually look quite nice wouldn’t mind wearing them at all. Re the code I think they look cool - good enough as a relationship piece and would definitely wear one but doesn’t really do anything for me emotionally. Looking at peoples buying history here I don’t really see the point for a normal human being with limited resources if the end all be all is a 15510 blue - I rather go grey and buy it now. No code and ROO needed. It seems like even ultra grail pieces like the openworked ceramic PC are coming down - I think they are at like 300k way too much for me but given what I would need to spend to get there it doesn’t seem bad at all. It is true that's a watch that needs to be in hands to be fully appreciated.
The curved sapphire, the case, work on the dial and of course the mouvement. That said, I am lucky enough to own few AP pieces and personally the code generate much more emotion than my 15510. Of course nothing to compare with a Jumbo, QP or a Skeleton... |

Code owner here
I think these are cool releases and will be a perfect entry into the brand for most. However, with how good looking these dials are and the relatively cheaper price, it'll probably be in demand and not as easy to get as people think. Even the white gold smoked blue dial three hander code was pretty rare at AP HK, it's not easy to get allocated that piece |

Lets be honest if these didn't say AP on the dial they would be collecting dust. Only 30M water resistance and stamped guilloche for that price? Man AP loves grifting its customers not to mention they are allowed to set their own dynamic pricing at the boutiques. what a joke
