Rolex 3185 caliber

Hi,

1) How many seconds caliber 3185 losses in a day? I am unable to find the specs.

2) Is the hairspring on the caliber 3185 non-magnetic? Is it parachrom or Navroxin ?


3) Is 3186 better caliber than 3185?

The 3185 "GMT" movement is based on the 31xx platform and performs the same as any other Rolex movement. How many seconds a day it may lose is more a function of how well it is regulated.

The 3185 came with a Nivarox-FAR hairspring and it is as anti-magnetic as the Parachrom.

The 3186 is not better than the 3185, it is just slightly different. The 3186 isolated the setting works from the hand stack and added the Rolex made Parachrom. In operation one is indistinguishable from the other except for the slightly less movement in the hand stack and a quicker setting "jump" gear.

Maybe COSC -4/+6 when new, if that’s what you are seeking.
Cal 3185 was discontinued before Rolex introduced -2/+2 secs.

Rolex did not publish "specs" for their movements as such. Recently they advertise that their "Superlative Chronometer" language indicates a capability of -2/+2.

COSC is not Rolex. COSC testing parameters are a -4/+6 swing during testing in order to be labeled a Chronometer. Today Rolex movements are still tested by COSC to those same test parameters.

How long Rolex will provide part / service support for calibers 3035 and 3185? If they do not supply parts and service to these calibers then what are my options to get them repaired? Thanks

There are millions of 30xx and 31xx movements in service, so parts won't be a problem for decades even if serviceable used parts become necessary for repairs.

On my wrist, my 16710 GMT II with 3185 caliber movement is easily within ±2 seconds/day consistently. Personally, I prefer it over a 3285 caliber model as I believe there's a ~25% chance I'd get a lemon if I bought a new 126710 GMT II. That may change if Rolex steps up to a permanent fix for these movements.
