SD43 discontinued W&W 2023?

Chaps,

I keep hearing speculation of the 126600 SD43 being discontinued.

Does anyone have any more info on this?

Many thanks

SJ

Yes. They all work at Rolex and won’t tell anyone until W&W starts. No AD has any idea no matter how convincing they sound.

These ADs know absolutely nothing about what is coming or going. NOTHING….

A lot of people who are trying to dump inventory are spreading these rumors to fuel sales

This is the most likely story. Pump and dump of slow sellers during peak rumor mill time.

Slow market for certain Rolex models? That's unpossible!

The funny thing is even Rolex themselves don't officially announce when a reference is discontinued. They sometimes let models on their website for a while to help clear inventory at ADs, after they've quit making them. We will only know once they've disappeared from their website, could take months after W&W. ADs can also confirm once a ref is no longer available.

For example, my YM 116622 pt dial got replaced with the rhodium/slate dial, yet they were both featured on Rolex' website in March 2016 until summer when the pt dial finally disappeared. That's how we knew the pt dial was gone for good.

It’s weird that Chrono24 only has one listing of a 2023 SD43. Usually by March, there are just as many current year than previous year.

I think it's one of two things:

1. No margin in that one so the people buying them are buying because they want the watch (shocking, I know!).

2. Rolex releases in batches so if that one had a "batch" near the end of '22 then it might not be due for another quite yet.

5 year run for 'red line' anniversary. Then it will continue white.

We're about to finish the 6th year since it was announced in March 2017.

A few points to note.

Firstly, it was in fact one of my AD’s that sparked said rumour last year, who subsequently pulled names from his list and stopped taking any further interest. I’ve heard this from several sources now.

Secondly, the 126600 is now the oldest in the lineup after Rolex very quietly updated the 126660 to the 136660 last year.

Rolex has also added another SD in the lineup by releasing the Deepsea Challenge.

Obviously the SD43 is already in its sixth year of production. If it’s not due to be discontinued or refreshed, will they really keep it in the catalogue for much longer anyway? Presumably they could have a ten year run and stop at their 60th anniversary?

Food for thought..

I appreciate everyone’s input.

I would be surprised if it didn't make at least a ten year run.

But, I've been surprised before.

Buy it if you want+love it. Even if they discontinue it, there is still a small number of people who can wear a 43mm watch.

The only way to really gauge these things is that in past recent years, before discontinuing Rolex sometimes allocates more of a model (presumably to reduce stock of components) before EOL or update of the reference. This is however speculative though because if they do not have a back stock on components, there isn’t a way to gauge this.

A good example right now would be the 126719BLRO which dealers have been recieving suddenly in the past weeks. Likely will be updated or eliminated, likely for a WG Coke. Of course this is all speculation. Rooted however in experience.

Best,

-Freq

Anything is possible with Rolex, they always do what we don’t want them to do.

I’m selling mine regardless but would pick up another if they finally add AR

If we”re speculating, I’ll speculate. I made this comment in another thread, but, if the SS SD43 is discontinued it is immediately (this W&W) replaced by a titanium SD43. It’s the perfect contender for a titanium dive watch. People complain about the weight, can’t get the bracelet to fit right. Plus they stopped shipping with the diver’s extension, no one expects to get it and they don’t need to make one and use up more titanium.

Agree, more people will realise this in the future. With the black Sub being too common, new Sub having a proportionally big bracelet and clasp for the Sub size, JC and other bigger Sea Dwellers are too big for normal wear, and the beautiful red line on the SD43. If you want a manly wearing black diver no substitute for the SD43
