Cartier Santos - Steel or Two Tones

My daughter (21 yrs old) is graduating from university in June, 2023. Wife and I like to get her a medium Cartier Santos. We are not sure which is a better option - stainless steel or two tones? Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you.

(Just a side note, we waited for over 1 year for a Rolex 36 DJ two tones and the AD still tells us that she does not any available for sale.)

First of all, would take the Santos first any day of the week; second, for your daughter I would choose two tone or all gold, or the blue dial if they have in medium. But not the newer models with the colored bezels.

I think it probably ought to come down to her color preference with other jewelry, but personally I think the two tone is the most flexible option and looks stunning.

Though I am not a fan of two gone watches myself… for women I do think that it’s a good option because it can be paired with other jewelry and accessories.

Whist Santos is a beautiful watch, I have one. The Panthere is really popular for ladies at the moment. Have you considered that as an option.

I think two-tone would be better for female, in general....

I would go SS. Matches a lot of things and with a white dial it has a neutral color. Why not go shopping and let her pick?

I think the TT would be a more "special" watch to give her. However, the flip side is a TT may get worn less than an all steel version since she may hesitate to wear a TT in casual situations.

In the end I still think TT is a better way to celebrate her graduation.

As a woman, I would go with steel and white dial. It is the one I have.

my wife prefers the steel over 2-tone.

she also prefers white dial over blue. says it's easier to read.

Either way it’s a wonderful gift and nice to see something different than a Rolex.

A little know fact is that Cartier used a higher grade steel than Rolex uses but only on their TT watches. The YG screws look very nice in the SS bracelet of the TT model.

Congratulations to you both.

Both would look great and timeless, but I'll vote two tone

if she really wants a DJ, go grey and get one since it'll be roughly the same price as msrp

if she wants a cartier, my advice is to get her to pick. i imagine two tone is more popular among females but also as someone mentioned, the panthere is hot now

so my advice is pretty much to let her pick, imo that way it'll be more meaningful for her

Two-tone. Santos works so well in two-tone. Much better than most watches. I also think a girl will appreciate the touch of gold.

You guys/gals are awesome. Thank you for your input. Will post a pick when the watch is on her wrist. :-)

That is why my husband went with TT for his Santos. He’s more of a WG guy so I was surprised. But as someone mentioned, TT works well with the Santos.

If TT santos is good enough for the new CEO of Waystar, then it’s good enough for your daughter.

I inquired with an AD about a Rolex DJ 36 TT over a year ago and have heard nothing. Amazing, as these sat in cases for years just a few years ago with the SS craze. Hopefully, it will be easier to get the TT Santos, if you want one.

Two tone is now the classic for this watch. Dresses up very well and looks great. The ss version is popular now and also a classic but the TT is very nice

Do you know if she likes larger watches? I wouldn't let opinions from this forum be the main influence for your decision.

Is a Panthere or Tank out of the question? For nonWIS quartz watches are more sensible for long term wear/use/maintenance.
